eh, sort of. everything is instanced. you may have 10 instances of every town(you can switch between them any time) and you can communicate with anybody in the game. Every time you leave town you or your party get your own instance of the open world/dungeon that you go to.

its mmorpg-like but you can play through almost entirely solo if you want(NPC mercenaries can fill out your party). To answer the original question is decent playing through with one or two friends. Just don't let anybody powerlevel you through unless you're only interested in PVPing.

If you think it's the best game you've played "in ages", that's cool. I didn't care for it much myself, mostly because of the horrendously non-responsive controls. I would say it is worth $5 if you like this kind of game, though.

Message from Gabe to Steam Community
Announcement - Valve
13:07
Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:

We continue our investigation of last year's intrusion with the help of outside security experts. In my last note about this, I described how intruders had accessed our Steam database but we found no evidence that the intruders took information from that database. That is still the case.

Recently we learned that it is probable that the intruders obtained a copy of a backup file with information about Steam transactions between 2004 and 2008. This backup file contained user names, email addresses, encrypted billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. It did not include Steam passwords.

We do not have any evidence that the encrypted credit card numbers or billing addresses have been compromised. However as I said in November it's a good idea to watch your credit card activity and statements. And of course keeping Steam Guard on is a good idea as well.

We are still investigating and working with law enforcement authorities. Some state laws require a more formal notice of this incident so some of you will get that notice, but we wanted to update everyone with this new information now.

Gabe

i dunno what u mean by unresponsive controls, i have no issues like this.. it is a really simple game so it was most likely a conflict you were having

it gets really difficult as it goes on, not everyone likes puzzle games but this is the best one ive ever seen , and the whole story and ethereal environment is just sick in my opinion

its really dark and grim.. with people trying to kill you for no reason, and your guy will die thousands of deaths as some of the obstacles are really, really, really hard to get through.

others require you to just think outside the box

Bought Bastion last week, I like it a lot. Has anyone tried playing it with a 360 controller? I haven't hooked it up to see if/how it works, but it seems like it would be a good game for it.

Yes, do that. I can't imagine playing it without a controller.
