They're basically interactive fiction where you make choices for the characters that end up defining who they are and what happens, to an extent. Actually moving your character around and "solving puzzles" sucks but I greatly enjoyed the ones I've played because of their stories and characterization. They're also good to play in snippets versus having to sit down for at least an hour or something.

I haven't played any Telltale games though I recently got Wolf Among Us during the Steam sale. I did recently play my first visual novel called Danganronpa which was surprisingly great. Gameplay was interesting given half of the game was just highlighting things in a room and reading (the other half was trying to pick out lies and inaccuracies like a trial). It played a lot better than the concept sounded. Music and story were really good. Got invested in what was happening. I think there's a new one coming out in a few months.

The Long Dark comes out of early access August 1st. You can get a Steam key for $19.99 from Amazon. (it's $34.99 on Steam)

Story mode is going to be episodic so who knows how it will be priced after 8/1. This is easily the best solo survival game I've ever played.

I feel scammed by the Doom free weekend, downloaded the whole thing and it's only apparently just two levels of campaing. What the ****? Release a demo and not free weekend, jerks.

Seems pretty non-scammy to me. Having a free weekend for a full single player game that can be finished in 10+ hours wouldn't make much sense. Not sure if that's ever happend - it's typically multiplayer-games that do these free weekends.

I'm sure everybody is reading that and not going from the front page seeing free weekend to game/install button. I think it's the first instance of free weekend this limited. There were SP games on the free weekend promo as well. This is a dangerous precedent imo.

I think it's fine. I'm kind of surprised SP games have free weekends in the first place. It's only annoying for Doom because it's such a large download.
