Not that NES Zelda is the only one that matters, but basically the ladder was the only thing that opened up portions of the map you couldn't access otherwise, unless I'm forgetting a back path by level 6 or something

The raft and bracelet opened new areas as well.

"living off the land" is a key feature of the game apparently, so them breaking regularly may be the best design decision, but the prompts are just out of control. Just give me a little red squiggle icon on my sword or something.
the weapon breaking stuff is a little annoying but only because you are limited in how many weapons you can carry

there are way more weapons than you could need, so you're never in danger of running out

and you can expand the number of weapons you can carry so I recommend forgoing other options to prioritize melee weapons slots over bow or shield which don't break as much

the prompts don't bother me

in addition to the one someone mentioned in a spoiler itt, there's another item you get early on that opens up new options

but most of it seems to be less binary in that your increase in stamina, climb speed, etc. allows you to swim and climb places you couldn't before

my only real complaint with the game so far is it being too easy, but like you said, zelda games have never been hard anyway and this is more about the exploration

This game is absolutely fantastic. Best since Ocarina and maybe even better. And I've played them all. I'm playing it on my kid's Wii U. Doesn't suffer at all from graphics. It's frankly worth picking up a used console to play this one game on.

Gamestop has fully equipped refurbed wii u's for 199. May go that route.

It may make more sense to just buy a Switch to some, but the lack of backwards compatibility is what swings me in the direction of the wii u.

If anything this finally motivated me to file my taxes so I can get some extra money and feel justified in this splurge.

I have a sinking feeling that this game may not be worth the investment though, it depends on how many hours people are able to squeeze out of this.

There are a few things I already don't like but I do like survival type rpg games, but if the resources are so plentiful that the game becomes trivially easy at some point I probably won't like it. And Nintendo tends to make really easy forgiving games.

There are some challenging zelda games. Link to the past had some challenging puzzles. Zelda 2 for NES is impossible.

More recently, I think majora's mask was challenging in the complexity of all the timeline interactions.

Ocarina had some challenging dungeons. If you want more difficulty in that one there are numerous fun challenge runs you can do.

Idk. Too easy would definitely ruin this game for me.

What made me bonkers for Zelda was simply walking around cutting down trees and not feeling any pressure to do anything. Like, there's a clock in Mario and in most games essentially, but OOT was the first game I played where I truly felt free.

Really excited to play this game. Been avoiding Twitch and feel like I'm missing out on an epic nerd party.

I feel like I've been playing a lot of this game and yet have barely scratched the surface of anything. Its really easy to get sidetracked.

32 gig ones or 8?

I do want to play a few Wii U games I missed, like kirby's yarn

8, does it matter that much? You can plug in a SD card right

I just managed to get off the plateau after about 10 hours. Absolutely loving this world. I felt like this with Morrowind when it came out.

one of my dislikes of Horizon is that there are strictly specific 'quests', like, green question mark over quest giver, a quest log, quest tracking, etc.

How is that in this game? Is there much direction like that?

biggest complaint so far (hateno village) is that the music is pretty boring and not zelda memorable in any way

Yeah the quests function in a similar but I think its less intrusive on the HUD than say, The Witcher 3, especially if you change the HUD to pro.

Yes, but you can ignore them for a very long time while wandering about. It's like Morrowind, Oblivion, etc.

Question.

So after reading up everything about the switch, it looks like a boondoggle of a console, and Im not willing to buy one until after some kinks have been worked out. Until then, I really want to play this ****ing game... but, my kid spilled some juice on the Wii U gamepad about 3 weeks ago, and repairing it is like 150 bucks, and there is no reason to do that when the Wii U is essentially dead at this point.

So, my question is, is it possible to turn on and access games on the Wii U without a functioning gamepad. If I buy a pro controller or a third party pro controller, will I be able to start the system, start the game, and play Zelda without a gamepad.

Opinions online seem to differ greatly, but Best Buy sells an off brand controller for 15 near me, and I was thinking about getting that and the game just so I can dive in ASAP.

Go buy a pad and the game, don't open the game, if the controller doesn't work return both.

I'm 99% sure the Wii U doesn't work without the gamepad.

edit: change that 99% to like unsure since I tried when the Wii U first came out and that was back when you couldn't even navigate the eshop with the pro controller. They might have changed it during an update.
