I found it odd that an Apple and herb made more powerful healing food than meat and herb, given that the latter two had higher hearts pre-cooked. (Possibly fowl legs of some sort)

I pressed the screenshot button so many times when trying to get to the map.

Just did the Gerudo mission that everyone hates.

Spoiler:
When I heard there was a bad stealth mission I cringed because Zelda always gets stealth wrong but it's really not hard at all, I did it on the second try and not sure why people are complaining. Once you enter the second room, turn left, climb the ladder and just walk across the beams on the roof, when you reach the last dude drop a banana and he'll walk away from the door.

Yeah Nintendo games always have a button layout that runs counter to what the rest of the industry does

It's a Japanese thing that Nintendo just don't change. All Playstation stuff has the same layout in Japan. O functions as X for example.

I'm at Kaam Ya'tak where I got a bunch of cool weapons but about halfway through I run into a motion puzzle and can't progress

Don't bother saving midway thru a shrine. Not only do all the puzzles reset, but any chest you've opened is now empty. Found that out in the time stop golf one. Hit the back of the hole three times on the bonus one before giving up.

Edit

Agree on controls. I will never understand a company that doesn't let you remap a controller how you want it. Running and changing the way you're looking at the same time, or maybe running and jumping? Who could ever want to do that?

I completely went the wrong direction on foot not knowing which of the 4 leaders I was heading toward. I wanted zora, and I barely ended up in gerudo fml. I did at least open up the shrine so I can fast travel back. I did get it right on the 2nd try and am now in that domain.

I have only done 2 upgrades though so I'm wondering if I'll be able to even do a dungeon without a couple more upgrades.

Not being able to remap the controls on the most major of major releases in 2017 is pretty insane, especially considering what others have said - that the X - O mapping is backwards from NA standard

I watched venick's sub-50 speed run and apparently he uses some kind of mod/hack to remap the controls

You can switch the run and jump buttons in settings but I think that's a worse layout. I'm used to the controls/Japanese layout so it doesn't bother me although agree it's really bad not to give people the option to change. It should just be a Switch firmware setting like PS4 has.

You keep what's in the chest though. It's empty because you took something out of it and saved. If it wasn't empty you could just keep saving and loading your game and getting infinite amount of whatever was in the chest.

Someone on reddit found this, one of the only English names in the actual dev team. Dreams come true yo.

Yes, but the puzzles were already beaten when I saved, too. So either all my progress should be saved, puzzles and chests opened, or none of it. This just needlessly makes shrines more of a pain in the ass to have some special save system that is the only one in the game to function this way.

You keep what's in the chest so you don't have to do that extra part again. Opening chests and looting is a universal system, what you're purposing changes that. Not being able to save and load states during shrines is understandable since they're mostly physics based, 1 or 2 rooms and 5 mins long at best. It would also break the test of strength shrines. All Zelda games spawn you at the start of the dungeon you saved in so that part is nothing new but this system is better because it gives you a chance to get chests you have missed in shrines you have completed by letting you do the puzzles again. If it saves the puzzle progress like you're suggesting then you would have no way to do that.

Should I be finding guidance stones in every major city or are maps just hard to come by

in the golf puzzle i'm referencing, you have to destroy your weapons to have attempts at the puzzle. They give you some sledgehammers in chests, but since you can't save your progress on the puzzles, saving just robs you of tools to solve the puzzle.

In other news, I think I wandered around a snowy mountain for 15 minutes without running into anything last night. Game is a heck of a walking simulator, but even more barren and empty than I originally thought.

Maybe I just have bad luck, but over two or three days of playing, excluding the starter 4 shrines, I've seen 8 shrines total, 2 of which I assume were shrines that I didn't know how to enter. Gets kinda boring trying to find stuff to do.

What is this, 2004? We don't say "gay" when we mean "bad" anymore.

It doesn't rob of the tools, the world is full of them. You don't have to do shrines as soon as you find them, come back when you have a bigger inventory. People find shrines at different times, you're not expected to beat a major test of strength early in the game for example. That's also one example of 120, being short on weapons isn't a problem for most.

It seems like you just don't want to like the game for some strange reason. I mean you have more posts in this thread than anyone and haven't said a single positive thing about it. The world is clearly not barren, I'm 50 hours in and still finding new things, it's being praised as one of the most lively open worlds ever. If you've only found 8 shrines and nothing to do over 3 days of playing then I don't know what to suggest. My first few days were full of "wtf is that" moments and plenty of **** to do and that seems to be most people's experience.

Ugh I'm going all over the place on foot and missing towers that help open up the map. Example is I made it to a part of gerudo town and doing that quest they tell me to go somewhere I'm guessing is on the map that I need to activate. Are you all just going from tower to tower to get them activated before diving into the main dungeon quest?

I always made towers a priority not just for map vision but ease of teleporting.
