ali is very hard to last hit with. It'll come with experience. Like bitchi said, stick to something easier for now.

Something I read on the internet said its easier if you hold 'a' when right clicking on the creep. I haven't tried this yet so I have no idea how much it helps.

I'm about to reach level 20, is there any reason for me to keep my lower level runes or can I just throw them in the random converter for tier 3 runes.

depends on how much IP you have. It generally takes awhile to get all the rune pages you need, and tier 1 will serve you till you can fill the gaps in.

I have just under 10k IP. I also started buying runes at tier 2 so I guess I con hold onto those a bit longer.

I wouldn't start with the combiner. You're unlikely to get worthwhile runes. Certainly use it when you've replaced some of your old runes, but don't use it as the means of replacement

I only used the rune combiner to clean out all my tier 1 runes so I don't have to look at them anymore.

Should I just stick with a ranged for now?

When I started I used cho'gath cus he was free and he was a tank with somewhat ranged attacks. Try out all the free ones until you find one that is easy for you to play. Nunu and Caitlyn should be easy to use and Nunu is only 450IP to buy if you like him. You could also use some of the free RP you start with to buy Yi, he is really easy to use and has a healing ability which will help you a lot.

Edit: Shen is also free it says he is easy to use but I suck with him.

Keep your level 2 ones for now, they are still useful. It would have been more efficient for you to go from 1>3's, but w/e.

First thing I would buy on a new account are flat armor yellows. They let you lane much better and mitigate autoattack harass. Next would be MR blues, then flat AD reds, then MS quints.

I think AD reds/Armor yellows/MR blues/MR quints is the best general runepage. AD lets you last hit better, even on mages. Armor and MR are obviously always useful, and MS quints are good on everyone as well (although pricey).

Whoops, totally forgot to do this. I'll try to ramble some stuff off now, though.

So at lower levels there are two things (imo) that kinda twist the gameplay from what you see at lvl 30 games.

The first is the lack of a metagame. There is a very well defined meta in LoL that is almost always followed. It is:

Melee bruiser/tanky AP mage in top lane.
AP carry in mid lane.
Ranged AD carry + Support in bot lane.
Jungler.

In case you're not familiar with AP/AD:
AP = Ability Power. Typically your mage type characters have skills that scale with AP.
AD = Attack damage. Every character's auto attacks scale with attack damage. A bunch of champs have skills that scale with it too.

Anyway, the lack of a metagame at low levels leads to "odd" lane combinations. Like you mentioned, you can't play a melee champ because you just get owned by ranged. Well, usually those melee champs are played top lane against other melee champs or in the jungle, so that's not an issue.

The second thing is the player mentality. At lower levels people tend to be more focused on killing their lane opponents then on farming. So you're sitting there trying to farm but the enemy lane is just going all in on you. At higher level play it is very common to harass your opponent a bit and then pick your spots to actually go in on them. At lower levels, people are just trying to kill you constantly.

However, this second point can often be turned in your favor. Because your opponents are hyper aggressive, they are usually wayyyyy out of position and easy to catch and kill.
