I've played against a bunch of them but not really with many of them. I've laned against 2 or 3 and all of them were competent. She doesn't do any one thing very well, she is just slightly above average at a lot of things. She's a worse version of Jarvan, basically - or if you like, what Jarvan should have been.

They can nerf Jarvan all they want but he's a fundamentally flawed champion. He has way too much natural CC and his armor is fk ridic.

ETA: Yorick is actually OK now since they buffed EVERYTHING of his. He used to be totally unplayable and he is basically the new Mundo now. He goes where he pleases and is hard to kill.

Yorick is really good atm, I think in 2-3 weeks he'll appear on the banlists, alongside gangplank and annie.

How much do the runes and masteries affect ingame play?

Say I don't have any runes and only like 5 points in a Mastery.

What kind of disadvantage will I be at?

None in your bracket, since most will be in the same position.

What about if I'm in a prearranged group of better players?

Yes, you will be at a small but significant disadvantage.

I've been playing nothing but pirate the last week and lol that dude is so broken. Also I've noticed Yorick is way stronger now.

I haven't played Leona since I hate tanks but my general feeling about her so far is she's pretty tanky and useful for stuns/initiations, but her dmg is pretty low and in team fights you just ignore her since she stuns and then can't do anything else. I agree she seems like a weaker version of Jarvan.

I've noticed my fps tanking since the last patch when there is more than like 2 champs and 2 minion waves on the screen it never used to do that before

I've been jungling leona since she is pretty useless in lane. She is a bit slows but ganking is pretty easy. I do see a ton of similarities between her and jarvan. Oh a yorick is op now. I love playing as him since he can "go where he pleases"

I've been using Garen mainly when I play in a group just because I've been trying to learn one character. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out the build though.

Mobafire has 2 different builds, Solomid has an even different build -- As far as the order of abilities and buying items.

If you're going mainly tank, should you just go for items that +armor? Or should you be adding in some +damage as well?

One build says Doran's Shield > Boots. Another says Boots > 3xHealth > Rejuvenation Bead. And then another says either the Shield or Blade and then leaves it up to you depending on who you're facing.

Maybe I'll stick with Mobafire since it seems like their layout is much easier to follow.

Also, when it says Blade > Boots > Brutalizer, should you be buying in that order? Or can you skip the Boots and save for Brutalizer?

I guess my biggest problem is figuring out what to buy. I know it'll come with experience, but then you learn one character and have to learn another one all over again.

The best thing to do when learning a new character is to look at a bunch of different guides and see if there are any items that they have in common. That lets you know a lot of people agree on a certain item, though it might be in a different spot in the build order.

As for Garen, I start Doran's shield on him. Then you want to get boots and brutalizer. Saving for brutalizer over boots is a poor idea, you really want the movespeed.
