Re: Just bought Diablo II - and I suck
so is anyone playing on uswest or everyone on useast?
eighty6 sometimes that will happen if you try to join too many games too quickly or join and quit quickly,
if anyone is playing on uswest my account name is spellofmaya, if not maybe i'll start a new character on useast.

Re: Just bought Diablo II - and I suck
Ah, I remember....
I never much liked doing excessive Baal runs once the trading economy was firmly established. DII became stale and boring waiting for the sorc to TP to Worldstone lvl 3 with characters setup with perfect Gear. So I played an awesome mod for the game with like a community of ~200 people called Seven Lances.
It had stuff like: "All items have been replaced: there is no "uber", instead there are many viable options of different equipment, and they don't turn the game into a joke either. Decent usable stuff is easy to find (33% chance of elite!) to diminish the gap between power characters and the player who just uses the items he finds on the way."
"Monsters: in normal, their HP is nearly double, and from here it scales down to default LoD HPs in hell. This is partly an attempt to help trapassins, elemental druids, and the like. Doubling normal HPs means close to nothing to physical characters, but it allows me to double and more the weaker elemental skills without overpowering them early on... Attack rating has been nearly cut in half to make defense meaningful."
"Normal monsters have had their drops improved, while act bosses have been lowered. The intent is to encourage full-clears with a boss at the end, as opposed to 3 minute boss-rushes. Teamwork and tactics is more emphasized than MF'ing. Act 5 monsters were individually redone. The monster spawning is randomized, many new monsters were activated or moved to act 5, and a balance of elemental attacks, resistances, and melee monsters is stressed."
Diablo 3, if it comes out could do much to improve on this. The weakness of the original DII is the rewards and XP of the bosses compared to the normal monsters, and the relative weakness of rares, magics compared to uniques and sets. It really does change gameplay for the better.

Re: Just bought Diablo II - and I suck
The eastern sun mod is supposedly really popular, I might check it out when I get tired of bnet. Agree re: the super items. I liked 1.04 etc a lot more than the current version as rares were just as good if not better than uniques in many spots depending on rolls. I still remember when the "sorc with a wand" craze started and I stumbled on the most awesome ***** rare wand with fast cast etc etc, so hot. Then I lost her to a DC as usual

Yeah, I'll do the same ($10 on Stars or FTP for a legit CD key). I actually only need a legit D2 cd key. When I asked my bro to mail me the D2 and LoD CDs, he found the LoD CD, but he couldn't find the install CD for D2 that had the CD key -- only the case w/ the play and cinematics CD that didn't have the key on it. I'd like to play with you guys, but I wouldn't bother for the $40 asking price that most stores seem to ask for this game.

Stuck at a wall because my gear is way too crappy to take on hell with. Seriously considering making a meteoorb sorc to magic find.

I don't understand why people make these. They are ok, but I mean in hc, I haven't been able to make one that's stronger than a blizz sorc. The only downside is you can't run pindle. I had a separate lite sorc for that anyway. You can still do andariel, mephisto, and baal.
If you want to beat hell for the sake of beating hell, summon necros can solo hell. Probably best to use amp damage and corpse explosion with summons.
For gear, trade your stuff on jsp, it makes it way easier to get the stuff you need.

Yah, I don't know if I even want to continue playing. After I beat hell, then what? Finally lost steam I guess.

Edit: Well the only thing that may keep me playing is uber-tristam. Never played it before and you can't do it in single player.

The reason why I wouldn't be as interested in a straight blizzard sorc is because I'd be unable to kill about 25% of the monsters in Hell. Yeah, you can teleport around them, but it's still kind of annoying. I like to be able to kill (almost) everything. I have seen some blizz/firewall and blizz/fireball builds that are interesting, though.

Maybe, I don't know. The multi builds are weak. I like to pvp too, so that's a consideration. My blizz sorc last ladder could run everything that wasn't cold immune. I had like just under 9k ib. I had other builds to handle other stuff. I have multiple copies of the game, and my brother played with me among other people, so I never really had to solo anything. I can see how it's probably harder to play solo, and that might have some merit to it.
Toss: If you want some fun away from online play (bots and dupes), play a mod of the game in single player. It can be really challenging and fun.
If you decide to make other builds, this is helpful too.

Re: Just bought Diablo II - and I suck
Meteorb is the only Sorc(without infinity/lite sorc) that can rush hell. Thus why I make them so I can help people through all the difficulties by rushing them. I'm also at that level where I can do it but I'm still tal armor/stormshield/good FCR ring from doing it. I figure another week or so I can do it. So guys that need hell rushes...if you want to wait a bit longer I'll prolly be able to help you, heh.

Re: Just bought Diablo II - and I suck
Thanks for the links gospy, I think I'll try out some builds I've never done before. Hell, I've barely touched the assassin and druid.
I'll also checkout some of the mods. See what they have to offer.
