Re: ITT we celebrate classic Nintendo 64 games
lotta PS2 and NES fanboys would probably take issue with that.
People also point to the huge discrepancy in the number of titles released between the 64 and PS...but in gaming, quality over quantity imo

Re: ITT we celebrate classic Nintendo 64 games
I've always considered N64 the GOAT multiplayer system. Goldeneye, Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Smash Bros, Perfect Dark, the wrestling games. It's amazing how so many years later if you're with a group of people you whip out 64 and four controllers and people have an absolute blast.
Gamecube could have been close I guess, but their versions of MK, Mario Tennis etc just never really clicked with me and at that point GC owners were the minority whereas pretty much everyone was familiar with 64.
64 had some great single player games as well but it's always shined as a party system imo.

Re: ITT we celebrate classic Nintendo 64 games
I don't know how old you are or when you started playing video games, but did you completely miss the nes and snes generation??
gamecube isn't even remotely close to goat.

Re: ITT we celebrate classic Nintendo 64 games
Super Mario Sunshine = Awful game. Possibly the worst Mario ever. Certainly not as good as Mario Bros 2.
RE4 = excellent game. I'm impressed that this game was first released on the Gamecube.
Super Smash Bros - meh... I suppose some people like it, but I played it and I didn't enjoy it that much.
Paper Mario - meant to be good, but never played it.
Super Monkey Ball - Really? This is a tilt a ball around a maze game, it's not a proper game imo.
Windwaker - Interesting game in some aspects, it felt like playing a Pixar movie, but it was ridiculously ****ing easy. Enemies were laughably predictable, literally every vase contained a heart.
Double Dash - Worst Mario Kart of all time
Metroid Prime - meh.
Eternal Darkness - Interesting concept, but I certainly didn't enjoy this game. A bit gimmicky for my liking.
Beyond Good and Evil - Excellent Game at the time I played it. I felt that it was a lot like Zelda OOT!
Twilight Princess - Not fun. WAYYYYYY TOOO EASY.
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes = Please, Please, Please, play the original MGS before playing this one. This is a really gaudy, horrible remake of one of the best games of all time. Graphically enhanced, but they completely changed the score, the cutscenes, the voice acting, the ambiance, everything.

Re: ITT we celebrate classic Nintendo 64 games
I don't think Gamecube is the WOAT, but it's certainly no where near the top. It did have some good ones, like (IMO obv):
SSB: Melee
LoZ: Wind Waker
Pikmin
Super Mario Sunshine (I actually like this game a lot)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
But there really isn't a whole lot there, but I think what is there is pretty high quality. It's just that pretty much every other system delivers better/equal quality, but way more of it.
But since this is an N64 thread, Banjo-Tooie is my 3rd favorite game of all time, behind only FFXII (and only barely) and SC2. I have bought and sold an N64 three times now (on my 4th atm), and the only two games I own currently are Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie. Both of the previous two times I rebought the system, it was to play Banjo-Tooie. I also like most of the standard mentions ITT, though *gasp* I've never played either of the Zelda titles.

+1 to these ones, I've been meaning to play these for a long time.
I love strategy-type games and have always really wanted to try pikmin (need to play pikmin 1 too)
and yes, GC is nowhere near the GOAT. I have a soft spot in my heart and memories for the system, but the 64 was much better.
