yup still have my $500 or $1k kickstarter, I installed but never used a single one of the free drafts for life or any of that that I had. Hows the game doing overall guys? Still hope it's succeeding

This is simply my personal opinion, but I dislike the game for these reasons:

- It basically copied magic, including it's horrible mana system. Considering mtg has much larger player base and 24 years of design experience, why wouldn't I just play it instead?

- I dislike the UI. I don't care about animations or effects, I just want clear and extremely smooth gameplay.

while hex did copy mtgs core concept nearly 1:1, i prefer hex for... its stable bugfree digital client, its set design (standard and limited are super fun atm) and its development team that actually cares ALOT

oh yeah and they added several cash prize torunaments recently. but shhhh

think its in a great spot. just needs more players for even bigger tournaments

What in the world happened? Account transition?? Sept 11 deadline to do so or backer rewards lost - did I miss a communication???

It was the deadline to transfer from a gameforge account, since Hex took over publishing themselves. If you have played anytime in the last 6 months you're fine.

Support helped me out - easy peasy.

Let's bump this thread since it's been 6 months.

New set (#9) is coming out tomorrow - DOOMBRINGER

Not sure if anyone else is still playing. I still do two drafts a week, but my motivation in the game is pretty low. I haven't looked at any of the spoilers for this new set.

I know that there's some buzz about Artifact with Valve's involvement.

Just feels a bit sad that HEX couldn't really figure out ways to build a bigger community or involvement. It is still chugging along. With Keep Defense finally being added as the most recent addition. Still no raids, but it's been like 4 years or so now.

Anyway - just curious if anyone was still active at all.

I still log in to do my two free weekly drafts. Which consists of me either making the first pick and then forfeiting or alt-tabbing and forgetting I'm in queue for 45 mins and tabbing back in and forfeiting.

Every few months I'll come back and play PVE for a day or two.

Shame they never gained a big audience. It's basically Magic with a rock solid client at half the price. Size of player base is basically the only thing holding it back.

I've written this before, but that is the exact reason the game wasn't successful. Even if it is better version of Magic, it is still Magic. Magic players rather stick to the existing franchise.

Hex mismanaged their opportunities to become relatively popular. It was never going to surpass Magic, but it could have been a reasonable competitor if things would have been done better. Basically every chance they had was wasted.
  • Have a 100K tournament before you even try to grow the player base.
  • Have a Steam release that was just beyond awful
  • Sponsor streamers (mostly without any TCG game experience) who basically crap on the game
I'm sure there are other things.

Magic players sticking with Magic is like a long-term marriage. You are bought into the game, so why leave and give up 50% of your stuff unless you can't stand being there anymore. Hex needed to try and find a space between the Hearthstone and Magic world - (i.e. where Eternal basically sits imo).

If Hex could have started the weekly 1k tournaments earlier with the 100K, it might have worked out better. Maybe not, but that 100K was just flushed down the toilet no matter how you look at it.

I'm still a bit 'invested' in Hex since the Kickstarter. I've got a GK code and my collection that I could unload. So, I'd probably end up ahead on money, but it's just a shame this wasn't more successful finding a niche. **On the bright side I did come in 2nd in a Sealed event for 250. We'll see if that ever gets paid out.

Timing of release didn't really work out for them either. When the kickstarter happened there was basically Shadowera and one or two other crappy TCGs. Then it took so long to get the game out and in a moderately playable state that by the time even the beta launched there was a ton of other options that TCG players could be playing.
