Brand new TCG/MMO game that currently has a kickstarter running. Made by Cryptozoic who makes the WoW TCG.

http://hextcg.com/

Beta starts in late summer and the game will be released in the fall. The main page goes more indepth and has examples of cards.

Hex Kickstarter

Kickstarter is 30% funded less than 24 hours in.

Gameplay should be familiar to anyone who has played Magic before. Here is a alpha test video of a game being played in the client, which reminds me of the Duels of the Planeswalkers client (which is excellent).

Game combines aspects of TCGs and MMOs:

- 350+ Cards in Set 1. Game is F2P. You get a 60 card starter deck on account creation. 15 card booster packs can be bought for $2 or ingame gold.

- An auction house where you can buy/sell/trade cards/gear/packs/etc for either real money or gold.

- Tournaments. 8 player on-demand Constructed, Competitive draft, Casual draft, and Swiss play tournaments. Daily tournaments starting every 4 hours. Weekly and monthly tournaments. Guild only tournaments. Coming in the future All Common tournaments, Highlander tournaments, Marathon Tournaments, Pre-release tournaments, 2v2 and 3v3 tournaments, PVE tournaments, etc.

- Create a Champion from 8 races and 6 character classes. Champions level and have talents that can change gameplay.

- Dozens of Dungeons (single player PVE) and Raids (3 player PVE)

- Cards are either PVP or PVE.

- Join a guild. Guilds have Guild Banks where players can create decks and register them, then other members can practice against these decks.

- Hundreds of pieces of gear that can change how cards work. Gear is PVE only.

They are taking advantage of being a fully digital TCG:

Some cards have sockets so you can customize them with gems.

Cards that transform when certain conditions are met.

Cards have a Double Back. Flip once to see the pack, flip twice to see the Double Back. Achievements, stats, and experience are per card and persist through selling and trading cards.

Cryptozoic said they will release new info each day the kickstarter is running. Some of the tiers look amazing. I got in on the King tier at the early bird price, seriously debating getting a higher tier. They have also said they will have a bunch of stretch goals after they reach 300k.

Quote:
Q: The Guild Master Tier comes with a special code to provide three friends with 30 boosters each. I was wondering, since the game is free to play itself, if those boosters could be traded to the main-account for personal use instead as well?!

A: Yes, you can do that. Thanks for the question.
Quote:
Q: Does the person have to be the guild leader for the exp buff, and if not does it stack with multiple guild leader backers?

A: They do not have to be the guild leader, and it does not stack with multiple people that have this benefit.
Quote:
Q: When you get an Alternate Art version of a card, this happens to all occurence of the card that you own or only that one?

Same question for EA and Foil

If it happens for each occurence, when you trade it, the card remains AA/EA/Foil or it gets reseted/to the condition the new owner already has?

A: Each card is unique, so you unlock those features individually per card. And when you trade for a card, it keeps all its previous experience and features. We think this is incredibly engaging and provide even greater depth in the TCG space for collectors, traders, and players.
Quote:
Q: Since achievements are on the card's DOUBLE BACK and are tradable, will there also be account level achievements ?

A: Yes, there are card, account, and guild achievements.
Quote:
Q: Will there be a feature to don't show the foiling of a card ?

Via graphic's settings for all cards?

A: Yes, you can turn off foil and/or extended art on your cards. There are robust settings where you can manage all this.
Quote:
Q: For the Pro Player tier after the free draft do you keep the cards? Hence is it a free pack of boosters each week?

A: A draft is made up of each player drafting 3 boosters. So it means that basically there are 3 free boosters each week because you get to keep those cards.
Quote:
Q: Or is it just free entry into a tourney that would cost xx$?

A: It is also a free tournament that would normally cost an amount of currency.
I am excite

Actually since I was an early-bird King I decided that was too much value so I just made a second account. King and Grand King. I'll be knee deep in boosters, bitches love boosters.

It is known.

You know, even in the worst case scenario where the game is just horrible, we will still have RAIDS jokes.

Let's go on card-based RAIDS.

Anyway.

Hopefully the game isn't horrible, shoudn't be since it has major similiarities to Magic and Cryptozoic makes the WoW TCG so they know how to design and balance a game.

At least with spending all this money on this I now have an actual reason to stop buying Steam games. I solemnly swear to not purchase a game on Steam (at least until the Christmas Sale). May God have mercy on my soul. Amen.

Quote:
Q. The kickstarter rewards are mostly PvE based, but have PvP alternate art cards - I would just like to know, will PvP cards be usable in PvE? Or are the cards truly exclusive?

A.

PvP cards --> Can be played in both PvP and PvE games
PvE cards --> Can only be played in PvE games*

*Except for the rare occasion where we do crazy PvE tournaments and let players go crazy with their super powerful cards.

We want to make sure the PvP experience is well balanced so everyone is on the same playing field.

Also, Gear (equipment) for PvP cards can only be used when you are playing your PvP cards in PvE dungeons and raids. Gems can be used in both PvP and PvE games.
Quote:
We will include the option to “turn off” bonuses you have earned from the Kickstarter, no the Raid Leader will not raise the max hand size just starting hand size.
Quote:
Minimum deck size is 60, no max, no more than 4 of the same card in a deck.
Quote:
1) There is a mail system, so you can just mail things to people that are offline.
2) Friends list = Yes!
3) Guild Bank = Yes, not sure if there will be a common pool to access, but there will be common decks. Let me explain:

Guildies will be able to create decks and put them into the guild bank (I believe there are a limited number of slots). Any guild member will then be able to "check them out" and play them against other guild members (can't play them against non-guild members or in tournaments). Think of this like a "gauntlet" where you put all the best decks in the current format in there, then you and your guildies test out all your decks against the guild decks to see if your strategies are working. We want to make sure deck testing is easy and intuitive for you.

You won't be able to trade the cards in these decks, and the original owner can check them back out for good or just to modify them. Also, only one person can have one of these checked in decks in a game at a time.

Lastly, we are also thinking of some way for guilds to gain the ability to have the top decks of major tournaments populated into their deck repository to play against.

I think I'm gonna drop some bones on the kickstarter as well. I've wanted a good competitive game for like a decade now.

Way, way back in the day I was in the competitive Myth 2: Soulblighter scene. Won some tourneys and had an absolute blast. Been missing that experience ever since. Pretty much requires you to get in on the ground level though, catching up with deep games is almost impossible because of the learning curve.

What's the point of so many boosters if there are only 350 cards?

I recently bought 49 boosters ( 11 cards x booster ) for Call of Chtulhu ( old CCG format, not LCG ) and I have enough cards for a good mono-deck for 6 factions + extras.

Extra cards may even have 0 resell value if there are so many boosters floating around.

That is true too.

120$ seems like a nice level tbh.

Plus you can enter draft tournaments with boosters. You could also save the boosters and trade them with other players for boosters when new sets come out, I'm assuming they won't sell boosters from all sets all the time. Maybe they'll only sell boosters from the last 3 sets or something.

How do draft tourneys work? Are you using your own cards or do you pay the fee and "draft" the cards offered by the tournament?

Pay the fee and draft new cards. You get to keep the cards you drafted them.

The fee to enter is 3 booster packs. 8 people enter. You open 1 pack and pick a card, then pass the pack. Pick a card from the next pack, then pass it, etc. Continue until all cards are gone.Continue this with packs 2 and 3. Then you make a deck with the cards you drafted and play a tournament. You keep the cards you draft.

That's the advantage of the Pro Player tier. One free draft tournament/week for life is basically 3 free booster packs a week for life.

Seems like once you get the Lotus Garden thing you're already ballin'

EDIT: $120 is the value there. On the other hand, Dragon Lord is pretty awesome.

Do it, then I can console myself that at least I'm not the top spender here.

We will also be offering a soft subscription model that, for a small monthly fee, will get you 1 booster per week. All for the low cost of $4 USD per month. So yea, you get twice the value in just boosters. You don't have to have the subscription, but seems like a good value :-)
At launch everyone will have tons of boosters but it might be nice when new sets are released to get a steady stream of new cards for cheap.

Q. I really hope there will be casual, non-competitive 1vs1 type of game with all stuff allowed (equipments, sockets, etc..).

A. You will be able to play against people in casual settings with all your PvE craziness.

Yes, at 3/week. Keep in mind you'll have to draft the cards you keep so it isn't really true boosters. But then just say **** it and take the most valuable card every time you pick and tank the tournament portion.

We're 24 hours in and we've surpassed the $100,000 mark. Thank you to you, our backers. Without you, of course, this wouldn't be possible. We're ecstatic that all of you want to help us launch HEX. This is more proof to us that people want a free-to-play digital MMO TCG that offers the premium experience of HEX. We took a quick picture with the team to celebrate and show you the people behind the project. If you look closely, you can even see Cory answering the phone. Yes, that number from the video is real!

We have a How to Play video up where you can see where we're at with the game in the pre-alpha stage and watch an entire game of HEX with the Bunnies deck taking on the ferocious Orc deck: http://youtu.be/SfOfGvkdzlI

This update has more information on the Trading Card Game. MMO fans, fear not! We have lots of videos coming up for you over the weekend. Today, you'll meet the lead designer on the TCG, Ben Stoll. He and Cory discuss the expectations of a the TCG community, the different innovations the digital space allows us to make with a TCG, and their favorite cards.

Additionally, on HEXTCG.com, Ben introduces players to Booster Draft, a very popular format that makes a game out of opening booster packs. You can read that at http://hextcg.com/drafting-in-hex/

Thank you again for helping us reach such an incredible number in just 24 hours. We've always bragged at Cryptozoic that our gaming community is the best in the world. For those of you already in the Cryptozoic family who are backing HEX, thank you for your continued support. For people who are just discovering Cryptozoic, welcome and much love.

So serious question, will there likely be a 2+2 guild?

Note that the Guild Master +10% EXP doesn't stack.
