Re: Heroes of Newerth

With puppets ult, if you use it right next to the target, then use the puppet hold to keep the target right next to the puppet, and then auto attack and hit the puppet w/ the splash damage whiplash attack, the puppet will take 200% damage or w/e it is while the splash will also hit the hero that is being puppeted, meaning you can kill them with just a few autoattacks + splash

Re: Heroes of Newerth

Yeah, I do see the value of casting show on the carry in a team fight. That's more the exception than the rule tho. Most of the spells are much more situational than I'm used to. Like, a stun or a nuke is pretty much always good, whether harassing in lane, initiating a gank, stumbling across someone in the river or jungle, in the middle of a team fight, chasing down a runner after a team fight, pushing or defending a tower, whatever. And then most of the other situational spells in HoN are really simple decision charts, like "Are there creeps nearby?"

With Puppet Master, there's been sooo many times where under pressure I cast "OMG, something, anything!", and it does literally nothing. Like casting Show when the stuff the target could potentially attack is too far, or moved before I got the spell off, or he hits creeps instead of teamates. Or casting Hold when I'm getting ganked, but he still has enough proximity/mobility to kill me before I can get away. Or casting ult as the target is running away, and getting one auto-attack in before he gets out of range. (I guess I need to pretty much always combo it with strings. I was aware of the puppet/splash interaction, I'm just not adept enough at achieving it yet.)

I feel like I'm powerful in lane, levels 1-7, and powerful after I get Shieldbreaker, and a compete piece of **** feeder in between.

Re: Heroes of Newerth

yup.

unrelated:

some ppl here are familiar with the fact that i don't like to concede easily. this is often because people severely underestimate what a minute share in equity <10%/<5% feels like. sometimes its also because its fun to continue playing. i don't care about inflating my k/d stats because i know it's correlation to winning is meh. with all the improvements they've made to the software, the concede/kick feature has been a real bummer. i keep coming out of pubs where i get kicked because i want to keep playing and i get kicked instead of the 2 guys who have been feeding half the game and are sitting in fountain for the last 10 mins. lame.

Re: Heroes of Newerth

sick a hon thread. this game is so awesome - ive never played dota before so this was my first experience w/ this kind of gameplay dynamic. at first when my buddy introduced it to me i thought it was gonna be too easy cuz i was comparing it to a rts and you only controlled 1 dude, but there is a lot of cool **** that can be done especially late game as your utility items increase.

i play puppet master mainly, only b/c im competitive so i like being able to carry pubs and get lots of kills and stuff. plus puppet master has a lot of cool **** you can do, you never feel like there is nothing you could have done different in any given scenario like you might feel when your playing someone like bloodhunter.

my tags teelobrown feel free to hit me up and we can play some, love playing w/ competent players

Re: Heroes of Newerth

Did they adjust the rankings recently?

I was like 1680 a week ago, then I logged on a few days ago and was 1530...drunk HoN maybe?

Re: Heroes of Newerth

I kept my PSR but my stats were wiped. Perhaps those who pre-ordered kept their PSR?

Re: Heroes of Newerth

they scaled the PSR and reset stats

everyone was scaled to half of their previous distance to 1500.

so 1700 scaled to 1600

1400 to 1450
