Re: Heroes of Newerth

there's already been discussion about this game in the DoTA thread, but I guess it does deserve its own thread.

I've been playing for a couple of days. It is definitely prettier than DoTA and I think the sound/music is also superior.

The most significant improvements, imo, are the disconnect protection and integrated "leaver ratio" features. Makes for much better games.

Right now though there is a fair bit of imbalance, but this is to be expected and is the whole point of having a beta.

Re: Heroes of Newerth

so im wayyyy behind in this, but is HoN looking beter thab League of Legends? I had only heard of LoL... maybe it got renamed, but PC gamer reviewed it a while ago and it looked solid for a DoTA standalone. can someone give me a rundown of why I should choose one over the other?

Re: Heroes of Newerth

LoL actually makes significant changes to dota, where HoN is basically a copy of 6.59d with some hero changes.

I haven't played LoL, but I hear the items and heroes are all different and there are other significant changes. It just has dota based gamplay.

HoN copied every item in 6.59d verbatim, except the one item missing is magic stick. Numerous heroes have been tweaked or mashed together, but there is still a significant number of them that are exact copies from dota. HoN, once they add more heroes and finish tweaking the heroes they have, could be considered a 'strictly better' dota.

The netcode is better, so there is less delay, and you can reconnect if you drop. Smoother graphics, stat tracking, better game filtering methods, and the impossibility for maphack (they claim all the information that a maphack would reveal will be made exclusively server side in the next patch -- a maphack exists for the current beta version) all contribute to why you might want to play this over dota.

Would buy, and would be very disappointed if it's system reqs are greatly different than WC3 because my laptop has a janky video card

Re: Heroes of Newerth

Try the beta. It will be higher reqs than wc3, but they have been putting a fair amount of work lately into optimizing the game for older machines.

Re: Heroes of Newerth

arachna and the defiler (banshee) are overpowered as ****.

in dota the banshee's ultra targets random units/buildings. in HoN, it targets the target the banshee is attacking. so she takes down heroes ridiculously quickly from afar.

so imbal. I'm just going to start picking her to make a point.

no, in dota her ult targets whoever you are attacking, but probably slower than in HoN so the dps is much lower in dota.
