Bit of a warning/complaint. As I mentioned earlier, I bought Pandora Directive over a month and a half ago (apparently none of you fools are into pure adventure games, but whatever). I came to a point where there was a puzzle I couldn't figure out...I finally relented and looked at a hint, and it turned out it wasn't my fault. GOG's version of the game is actually missing some inventory files. So I was looking at what I (correctly) thought had to be the clue to the puzzle in my inventory, but it was displayed wrong because of the missing files.

GOG is aware of the problem and STILL hasn't patched it. It's essentially a broken game (you can finish it if you look up hints to find out what you're supposed to be seeing in the game, but that's ridiculous). Ask for a credit?

I would. Sounds unusual for GOG. They're generally pretty darn good about pretty much everything.

After suffering through the Game Tap disaster, this is welcome. Thanks for some ideas guys.

Poker, pfft---who needs to grind when I've got this stuff!

I'm grinding levels in Sacred lately. Good fun!

GameTap was okay before they went with the awful web interface. I bugged them enough to get a refund for the month I subscribed for earlier this year.

I think it'll be sooner tbh; they already have HOMM3 in their "coming soon" section, and it typically doesn't take too long for games to move from that category to being released. HOMM2 wasn't ever in "coming soon" iirc, even after 1 was released.

What are some of your favorite maps, btw? I've always been partial to Broken Alliance because it was the map that came w/ the demo and I played it a million times, and Slugfest is kinda fun, but beyond that I don't remember most of these.

I just played Arrax the Jerk yesterday, it was pretty fun, to win the final battle I wound up

Spoiler:
building up armies from the Knight/Sorceress/Necromancer castles I'd captured, bringing heroes w/ all of them over to my main castle, and then switching each army set over to my main leveled-up hero, Dimension Door-ing him over to Arrax, and basically suiciding and trying to take out as many troops as possible before retreating and re-hiring him back in my main castle to repeat the process w/ the next army. His stacks were ridiculous, like 180 trolls, 180 ogres, 120 cyclopses, 350 orcs, 250 wolves.

What do you want GOG to do they get their copy from the developer/publisher and have to request they do something about it, how many of the original coders do you think are still available at the developer if it even still exists?

To make the point I just checked the background on the developers and found:

In 1987, Access announced The Robotic Workshop, a toy kit that allowed users to build and program robots using a home computer. The kit was a precursor to the much more popular Lego Mindstorms kits released in the late 1990s. The Robotic Workshop included over 50 Capsela parts, including two motors, gears, wheels, and sensors.
Access Software was acquired by Microsoft in 1999[2], became part of Microsoft Game Studios and was renamed to "Salt Lake Games Studio". In 2003 it was renamed again to "Indie Games".
In October 2004, Microsoft sold the development studio to Take-Two Interactive (T2) and it took on the name Indie Built.[3] They became part of T2's 2K Games/2K Sports brand. Indie shipped Amped 3 for the launch of Xbox 360 and worked on Top Spin 2 for Xbox 360 developed by Power and Magic. Take 2 suddenly closed Indie Built on April 28, 2006 without publicly stating any reasons for the closure.[4]

You're only solution it seems is to either find a pirate copy online ( not hard ) and/or ask for a refund.

Stop selling a broken game or put a warning?

I haven't played the game for too many years to remember map names, but mostly I played random skirmishes anyway. I like being surprised by the map every time.

Re your spoiler, I like mixing and matching armies a lot too. I seem to recall trying to get titans, black dragons, and hydras into the mix quite often. IIRC hydras were really tough and their multi-strike was incredibly powerful.

I had a sick wizard game last night where I was having epic battles with another wizard, and surprisingly enough it came down to my stack of steel golems against his. With steelskin, those things are absolute tanks.

His ****ing mage guild gave him summon fire elementals which made killing him ******edly hard, because if I got him close to dead he'd just flee and come back later with a new army, and have 30 fire elementals for free thanks to that spell.

I never liked the metal golems much because they were so expensive and slow, but if you ever managed to get a bunch of them, they were tough indeed.

HOMM3 up already? Wow that was faster than I expected. I thought they'd try to sell through HOMM2 for a while first.

This looks to be an awesome site, but I really hope I'm not getting this wrong. You purchase the game, it downloads to your computer, and you can play. No need for a CD right?
Great finds on gog.com Quote
08-25-2009 , 02:23 PM
That's right. You get a full copy of the game via download. You can install it on basically any computer, so if you have a desktop and a laptop you only need one downloaded version. There's no CD required, and they're made sure that each game will be fully compatible with Vista and XP. I ran Descent and Descent 2 on Vista Business x64 with no problems.

Also they come with no DRM, no phone-home, must be online to play requirements, no limit on number of downloads or installations, etc. And all the games are either 5.99 or 9.99.

It's close to the epitome of everything you've thought: "Why don't they just do X?" when referring to video game distribution.

all unreal games 15% off. they have some cool promos even though the games are already dirt cheap. probably gonna wait to buy HOMM til they offer a package for all the games or something. been playing fallout tactics and the settlers 2 lately, both highly recommended obv.

yesss! I'm probably gonna hold off for a bit though because 2 is probably still going to own my life for a long time.

It took me something like 230 game turns to beat mission 4 of the good campaign last night, god that was a pain in the ass. You get two castles about two turns apart, but there are 4 CPU players allied against you, and they're coming at you so often that it's ridiculously hard to push them back enough to actually let you get out of the area you start in.

For you HOMM fans, did any of you ever play Master of Magic? It's more like a Civ version of HOMM, but was so awesome. I didn't see it on gog, but it may be worth looking around for.

the only game i've played which i suspect is remotely like this is lords of magic, anyone ever played that? i think i wanna do either disciples or HoMM 3 next, which one should i go with?

HoMM is probably better, but both are worth playing eventually.

You might want to give HoMM2 a shot, btw, if only because 1. it's awesome and 2. after playing 3 you probably won't want to go backwards to a previous version of the game.

To the HOMM addicts, any of you played the original Kings Bounty? ( not the remake ).

It was made by the same company as the early HOMM games and was pretty awesome.
Addicted me for weeks back in the day

I've owned this in a box set along with Master of Orion and the first two X-Com games for like 12 years. I haven't touched any of them except X-Com 1 and that was only for a minute until I realized it was way too complicated to get started without the manual handy.
