So, looking for a new online ccg to play.

I loved clash of the dragons and elements. I dislike hearthstone. I tried most older ones, so looking for relatively new ones.

i had a lot of fun with shadow era before i started playing hearthstone.

It's interesting to compare the mana systems of those games:

1. MtG (and Hex): Draw lands and spells intermingled, get mana flooded or screwed, game sucks.
2. Shadow Era: Cards drawn are chosen strategically to be either mana or face down as lands
3. Hearthstone: Mana is fixed and free
4. Duelyst: Mana is fixed and free, but cards can be mullgianed once a turn midgame.

I think 2 > 4 >> 3 >>>>> 1

Agree. From what I remember, the card design left a lot to be desired, however. There were so many just terrible cards in the first few sets, the ratio of the trash cards (lots of super niche stuff, akin to Hearthstone's Bolster) was so high, it negatively impacted the draft format. You literally couldn't get enough creatures into your deck.

Also, it seemed like many of the classes were "balanced" around the existence of some particular imbalanced cards. Like, imagine if your game accomplished a win-rate for warriors of 50%. That sounds fair. But if you do this by virtue of having a card in the Warrior that wins you 90% of the games when it's drawn, and then making the rest of Warrior's cards terrible, it would be poor game design. It felt like that to me for some of the classes: "I drew Blood Frenzy , you didn't immediately kill it, I win. Yay me."

highly recommending hex. fwiw i dont even know about other ones cause hex eats all my playing time.
