I don't think Asheron's Call deserves any goat status. the PvP combat was incredible, but I think it was mostly an accident how good it was
there were some bugs that came to be thought of as features, that allowed players to move and spellcast and dodge projectiles in ways that were almost definitely not intended by Turbine, and that's what made it such an intense skill game
Asheron's Call and Starcraft are the only 2 games I can recall that benefited enormously from accidental game mechanics that the developers didn't even realize were in there
Starcraft's fire-while-moving trick for vultures and probes and most air units, muta and wraith stacking, psi storm spacing, using splash damage on your own units to kill undetected units, and a million things you can do with dropships
actually I forgot about the biggest one, strafe-jumping in Quake, so 3 games
