The alpha hasn't even launched yet, it should be launching next month - access is granted to your square enix account though, so keys will not be for sale - only accounts.

No such luck for getting an invite for myself though, although I have a friend who got an alpha invite.

Alpha starts tomorrow. While my accounts didn't get in, a friend of mine did and he is letting me play. Go go no NDA for me!

My main issue with 11 was the microeconomy auction system. It was ran by communists....quite literally.

my other issue was that there was very VERY little solo stuff you could do... you absolutely couldnt grind at all unless you had almost a full party or a highlevel power healer.

I mean when i was playing 11 unless i had 4+ hours to play it wasnt even worth it because 1-2 of those hours was setting up a party and there was virtually no way to even make money without a large party or spend hours and hours gambling on the auctions.

Are they still going to allow the chat gambling on there? the random number thing was so awesome.

dammit...i need to stop talking about this game. lol i have a life now.

..will...not...go...back...to... my.... thieving... ways....

So true. Think I got up into the 50s as bard and 40s as ninja and ranger and most others in the 20-30s. If you wanted decent xp at all you needed a very well setup group which usually took hours. In part because 70% of the player base wouldn't even consider inviting english speaking players. Really a terribly designed game for anyone who didn't have 6+ hours to play at a time.

I did however fish bot the hell out of windhurst. I also solo-mined ifrit's cauldron with my level 30 whm for adaman and orichalcum.

I spent quite literally over 90 hours camping my thf setup... odin sucked for autobots...even when i used thf/rng setup.

The japanese player base kinda ticked me off because i was better in a party than most of them...if i ever did get into a japanese party it was just because they needed a ninja tank and i got booted whenever they found someone else....then id typically get messaged an hour later asking me to come back.

i really loved the game tbh...i met a lot of really cool people playing it. I just cant sink that much time into a game like that again. I tried Aion and forced myself to cancel after a month.... there really needs to be a full one player experience built into these games...like a campaign that can be done all solo....that way when i have the once in a blue moon 8+ hours to play I can still do all the really cool party stuff, while being able to actually play the game solo too.

I think the only reason i lvld up so many jobs is because you could solo it up to like 10-15....lol then i wasted time lvling up my mules for some reason.

...and tbh even though i played that game for 2+ years i couldnt even begin to tell you the plot of the story lol.

man i want to go on a prommie run with my old LS right now.
lol shot in the dark bt no one in here was in the dawn guard were they? Ive fallen out of touch with all my van-diel friends.

oh...and does anyone else own the FF11 gametime desk clock?

I hated how FFXI was party only, so you can't solo if you wanted to level up or whatever. Will FFXIV be like WOW, where you can get around by yourself?

Most FFXI parties ended up like this:
15 min putting together a decent fighter, monk, or other hitter class
30-45 min looking up a healer
level for about 10min, and then healer has to log off all of a sudden, rinse and repat.

Will there be a player run economy on FFIV, and can you obtain decent gear through it? One reason I loved MMORPG's was the economy, and how you can amass a large amount of wealth by buying in demand items and selling them. I actually stopped questing in WOW towards the end because I was making a decent amount of gold at the AH all day lol.

I'll take a peek when it's further into development but an MMO:

A) Developed in Asia tends to require incredible grind with very little soloable content
B) Focused with PvE at its core

Tends to make me say "meh" and pass it over.

hoping for more soloable stuff as well. probably get it either way, but won't play as much if half the time every time is setting up a party

Yes, same deal as FFXI. PC/Console/Region do NOT matter - everyone will be on the same servers. ( obv need different accounts ).

That means PS3 on 60" TV can play along side someone on a 12" laptop.

It _was going to get an xbox release ( ffxi was on ps2/ps3/xbox360 and pc ), but MS wanted it to have a gold requirement as well as the monthly sub fee and that's at issue w/ square so who knows if we'll see a 360 version or not in the end.

Alpha, minimum qual for tests/blahblah

Wait for beta screens/vids if you're not a little bit fanboyish over this

If they dont have it for 360 and pc i wont get it....and if the 360 version looks like the 360 version of 11 i wont get it either lol . graphics arent the most important thing to me in this game but the 360 graphics of 11 looked lol bad and the font made it really hard to play once you got into the higher levels.

if however i can play both in my living room and even convince my wife to take up a whm character then square might get a few hundred more bucks out of me with their mmorpgs.

I really, really want to quote OP, I just can't think of a good enough one liner.

I played 11 for a while, and got tired of it. I never have time to play for long stretches, and it got boring not being able to group much. Solo, it felt really, really grindy.

That said, I think it had potential, and I think I might have enjoyed it more if I had the time.
