Manual switch is by far the best option, but the problem with it, and it's a ****ing huge problem at times is getting the right player selected in time - on past FIFAs it has been perfect but i'm sure they're nerfed it on this one as often it can take up to 5player changes to get the defender i want selected and yes that's using both methods, but it rarely costs goals as when an attacker is really advancing on your goal you just select the nearest player to ball which is easy.
Re. winning headers - a big thing is backing or pushing into your opponent.
Not only does it seem like a random choice, but in certain situations it really feels like the player u want is the only one they wont switch to!
When an opponent is bombing down the wing, and you're containing him with RB/R1, all you want to do is select the CB who should be covering the ST making a beeline for the goal, if the opponent is right out at the touchline and you are in the middle, it will literally take forever to get to select the CB, with the additional 1/2 seconds allowing the attacker to get in a much more dangerous position, whereas a couple of seconds earlier if the ST had been covered the winger would have had much less options allowing a tackle to be made as the winger would have had to take on the defender containing him, does that make sense??
