I just bought this game today and am trying to get used to the new defense (Im just playing against the computer/AI for now).

I found that selecting a defender away from the ball and then just holding right bumper to have a different defender go after the guy with the ball was pretty effective. I could just keep the other defender in good position and the computer controlled defender made way more steals than I could with me controlling the defender.

Any thoughts? I assume this wouldn't work as well playing against another human but seems to be pretty good against the AI offense.

calling another defender to contain is only valueable if you are in a situation where you want do double(mainly when a winger wants to cut in) or want to cover space or track a run with another defender

in 1vs1 situation you are way better off defending yourself because you can contain, jockey and tackle instead of just containing like the AI

But the called in defender gets tons of steals from what I've seen, it seems like about a quarter of the time they just charge in and knock the offensive player off the ball.

Although I've only a played a couple games, so I suspect your right and I just havent played enough to notice.

Also, what exactly does the jockey move do? I've had a hard time differentiating it from contain.

So I decided to buy this even though I have been a pro evo guy for my whole life (last 2 games were **** tho).

I was excited cuz I remember having fifa 09 or something and though I didn't like the game, it ran real smooth online....compared to the ****fest that was pro online anyway.

Now this game seems to be lagging hard and losing connection with opponents when I play online. Is my internet just slow and ****? Does your guys games run smooth?

Also, if people could give me some tips on tackling that would be great....I'm not really sure what this containing and jockeying is for.

Any typical fifa type tips would be appreciated too.

Hey snail, if all your games lag badly, it will be your connection. Mine tended to lag quite abit on fifa11 but for some reason, fifa 12 has been super smooth for me online.

My record online is 15-3-4 so im fairly decent but my tackle percent success is 36%. Seems pretty weak although im pretty solid at the back.

My tips would be, back of back of a lot when they have the ball and try to manouvre your players so they cannot play the forward ball. Only attempt to make the tackle when they take a big touch or run directly at you.

What record do you guys have online? Anbody got to a say division 5 or higher on h2h season? How tough?

anyone have any idea how they'll run this cup system?

i saw that nobody at club seems to use precision dribbling and therefore making a little post about it.

to get past players precision dribbling is BY FAR the most effective way(normal dribbling skills are quite useless if your opponent is somewhat competent)

at first precision dribbling seems completely out of place and I therefore too was kinda reluctant to integrate it into my game especially given that it takes some time to be able to use it effectively.
Precision dribbling makes it possible to change pace and direction very quickly and it also makes holding up the ball a lot easier which is great when waiting for your team-mates to make runs.

How to do that? well tough to explain and you have to try out a lot yourself but ill go ahead and try to bring it into words:
when you run with the ball and come close to an opponent stop running and hold precision dribbling for a tiny moment(VERY close to your opponent) then release and try to walk past your opponent.

If done properly those quick turns of direction look very realistic

Cashy this is a total noob question what is exactly the precision dribbling button? Atm at club level I have played enough so that my guy is a decent way better than most but eventually people are going to catch up 88 CAM ftw

This game is addictive as ****. Litterly once I start playing can't go off for 4-5 hours, What're all your average ratings for clubs? Mine atm is a 7.0 which is an improvement from 11 but ideally i'd like to get it 7.5ish.

Ridiculous how bad the replay player is on fifa games, I had hopes that this would be different on 12 though...seems not.

Im glad they've changed the substitution bit though. Just cuts straight into the players coming on/off. Instead of a stupid video scene.

Overall id say this game is pretty sound though. Cant get out of Div5 in H2H seasons though

Also how annoying isit when you score in the 1st 5 minutes of a game and your opponent quits the match and you dont get a win?

Yoyoyoyooyoyo I'm going to class now should be home about 5 hours from now but very much doubt you're up. So I'd say realistically 13-14 hours from now seems right plzzzz turn out to be the best Goalkeeper in Fifa history one time.

Oh forgot friend of mine played a full division when in XBL party with me, he won his first 5 so needed a point from his next 5 games to go up... Yea he kinda lost the next 5 with the last being a 3-2 loss with Benzema scoring in the 90th lolol rageee ensued. The backing out after conceding is such a scummy thing to do pretty sure I'm in the major minority when I just wouldn't back out when this happened

Suppose thats a good thing although wil def be abused. Some guy quit on me 0-0 at kickoff , prob had to go somewhere.

What are most people like for quitting here? I only ever quit if im my opponent is passing the ball about in his defence cockily and is ahead by 3 or 4. Hate people who try and be barca in their passing.

If a person keeps playing normally, i wont quit regardless how far behind i am
