Yeah I agree that Japanese games as a whole have dropped in quality but to say it the way he did and just respond to a Japansese dev with "your games all suck" is just douchey. I'm glad the game is good and I hope hard work pays off for him, I think he's a really smart guy, he can just come across as a dick sometimes.

Yeah it's really impressive for 2 people, it's been in development since 2007 and has had a lot of trouble, it's good to finally see it out and playing as well as people hoped.
GiantBomb's explanation. It's pretty ridiculous. I agree that 99% of players will either not do them or just use the internet.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
This game is totally awesome... only a hour or two into it, but really think all of it is very well done. The graphics are super relaxing.. pixelation makes it kind of a relaxing vibe with cool color usage, and tons of little details here and there to give it some life (animals, paintings on the wall, water, clouds etc)
The controls are again very simple and relaxing.. the level design, mechanics and the flow of the game is very consistent and all fits together into a nice little package that is easily worth more then the $10 price tag.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
Just finished the first half of the game (32 cubes). After reading a little bit about the rest of the game, solving the puzzles ahead seems like a crazy task. I'd like to figure out the alphabet and numerical system myself, but it sounds like a huge bitch.

Ok, I didn't get this the first time, but in re-reading the fez review on IGN now I get it - this is really strange. Can't say I like the idea but I guess I'll try it. I'm downloading a QR scanner for my blackberry now. Will try it tonight.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
loving this game.. not a fan of all of the backtracking (yes i realize there are warps everywhere but still.. it's a bit cumbersome) though forgiveable.. though the loading does make it worse than it probably is.
really like exploring
something about the fact that there are no enemies makes me very happy
i think have something like ~10+ cubes and 3 or 4 anti cubes

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
So having played the game a bit...
- it does seem that most of the code stuff is explained in time. There are 3 different types of codes, and each of them seem to have at least one place in the game that indicate how those codes are to be read (although for the alphabet code, as spoilered above - I seriously doubt I would have ever figured that out on my own). You just have to go through a lot of the game not knowing what they mean until you do find these places through exploring.
- once you get 32 cubes, go ahead and finish the game. You see the end sequence and then "restart" w/ the same progress you had before (same # of cubes, items, etc) with a nice bonus that will help you with some puzzles on your way to 64 cubes.
It is slightly annoying that the game is so new that there aren't any good guides for it on the interwebz yet, combined with the fact that no areas in the game are named and a lot of stuff looks similar - good luck googling "fez purple pillar puzzle" to solve that puzzle you're stuck on.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
...downloaded it today, nice game so far.
But i have some problems with the navigation. The doors are anoying, because sometimes they open up a room, and sometimes the send u to a new area. Hard to keep track of your route, everything is looking similar and
the map is almost useless.
I try to clear the area where i am at and when i am done, i open up door after door, but it i still get lost from time to time...
How do u guys keep track of your route?

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
If you stand in front of a door that you've already entered, a picture of the area will pop up - that's the same picture that represents the area on the world map. So I'll make a mental note like "I'm trying to go to the windmill area" and then look for the picture of the windmill to pop up when I'm in front of a door.

Yeah this is extremely useful..
Also, from what I can ascertain... the representation of how the different level 'nodes' on the map are connected (either above, below, or on the same level as the node your in) is important too. So if for example you see the next node you're looking for above you, then you will have to climb up higher on the level your on to find the door. If the node was below you, then you'd be looking for doors towards the lower portion of the map.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
...man, cant stop playing, thats crazy...
My new tactic is to open all doors right from the start, enter them and leave them again just to have these lil picuters available. Helps alot!
When i look at the map, i have some small rooms left where i dont know how to get there. Is it ok to skip them or do i have to find every single square in order to finish the game?
I allready opened up some big doors in the "masterroom" , so i am not sure if i have to go back at one point to clear the missing rooms... thanx for ur help!

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
You only need 32 combined cubes + anti-cubes to finish; in total, there are 64 cubes in the game (32 normal, 32 anti-cubes).
I think I have 31 cubes and 7 cube bits (lol, just need 1 more cube bit to have every normal cube and I have nfi where it is) and maybe 20 anti-cubes?
