Anyone else buy Fez today? I'm having a lot of fun with it right now.

Downloading it right now. I'm really looking forward to it!
Edit: amazing how small it is eh? Really highlights just how far games have comes since the 16 bit days!

Obviously the first level is pretty easy but you can already see the potential of the primary mechanic of this game. I think its going to be a quite enjoyable relaxing type adventure (though I can see getting stuck down the road...)

Spent a lot more time with Fez. Getting stuck here and there but what a satisfying game when you finally figure out the solution to getting to a particular area. Very clever game and well worth it!

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo
I just bought Fez and have played for a couple hours - pretty solid, but whatever programmers worked on this seem kinda bad. It baffles me how a game so simple can have framerate issues and meh loading times (it's running off the hard drive ffs!). Also the first time I started it the game kicked me back to the 360 dashboard for no reason.
Aside from that, minor gameplay nitpicks:
- how are you supposed to figure out what the codes for numbers/button combos mean? Trial and error? As best as I can tell the game doesn't give you any space to figure this stuff out (like, easy puzzles that teach you the basics of codes and then lead up to more complicated stuff) - either you're ****ing Rainman and you crack it yourself, or you look it up online like 99% of players will. The locked door inside of the starting Village is a good example...first level of the game, how are you supposed to figure that **** out???
- navigation seems like a PITA. If you're looking at the world map and you want to get to one particular area, seems hard/annoying to figure out exactly which door in an area you need to take to get there.
Other than that, pretty fun so far.

I haven't had any framerate or loading time issues. As for the codes, I think the whole QR code thing is really lame for those of us who don't have smartphones. Aside from that, I don't know what codes you're talking about. I'm 54% of the way through the game (but I don't think that means too much because I saw people on the leaderboard with 208%). The world map is confusing too - I don't quite know how to read it but apparently the more you play, the more sense it makes.

Re: We should have a "random ****" thread in this forum imo
Examples of the codes (glyphs?) off the top of my head:
- In the starting village, you go in the locked door and get your first treasure map; in that room, the posters on the wall spell out a controller input sequence that will unlock a reward
- In some rando level somewhere there's a bell at the top of it that you can ring by pressing X. Each of the 4 sides of the bell has a code above it that corresponds to the # of times you need to press the bell to unlock something or other
Those codes (the controller input, and the numbers) seem pretty retardo impossible to figure out since the game doesn't ease you into them at all. Or maybe I'm just a retard, I dunno.
QR codes? I'm not even sure if I've seen those.
I think I largely figured out the world map though, if you have any specific questions I might be able to help. Maybe we should just make a new thread for the game...
wrt framerate issues - they got worse the longer I played the game, maybe it's a memory leak or something. I quit to dashboard and restarted and they cleared up. But at the worst point, like, I'd walk through a door that would take you to a visible island in the background, and the camera would sloooowly zoom in on the island in the background as the game tried to load it, and finally give up and go to a black loading screen with the cube in the corner. Like, come on guys, how much **** can you possibly be loading from the HD for something so lo-res?

Wow, I didn't even notice either of those glyphs that you mentioned. I hear there's a code/alphabet that you can decode in the game, but I haven't stumbled across a starting point for that yet.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
Ok, so I guess there's a whole level to this game I've missed! i could not for the life of me figure out what to do with that damn bell and there's s room with a secret in it that I thought there was some secret platform I just wasn't hitting but I guess there's some sort of button combo? Why couldn't that colourful cube guy have keyed us into that at some point, I don't think I'd ever have figured it out just playing! I've been trying to play without looking up walkthroughs, hopefully this will be enough of a hint to get be started!
Haven't noticed any framerate or loading problems myself.
Yeah, the map is a bit annoying, I use it mainly to figure out if I've cleared a level or not, but in terms of navigation, not so helpful! And once a room is solved there really should be some sort of short cut that pops up to let you quickly pass through that room again on subsequent passes. I've been leaving unsolved rooms to come back to later and its kind of annoying to have to completely replay some levels to get back to it later.
But overall very much enjoying the game. I also can't figure out how they measure progress in the game. I was a little disappointed when I saw that I was 35% of the way through the game since that would make it shorter than I thought it was- then saw a bunch of people over 200%? Seems like an odd way of calculating it!
Still, very much worth the buy iMO.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing that annoys me.

Def agree with this though, this stuff would be worse if the game was more expensive but $10 is a steal.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
Awesome game. There are some performance issues but they are minor and easily forgivable considering the game was made by 2 people, costs $10 and is so good. I'd say a lot of the issues has to do with it being done with XNA. I've been following Fez's development for about 3 years now and it definitely lived up to expectations. It's a shame that Phil Fish is such a dick because I love his game.
How to solve the codes

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
Obviously the way he said it was dumb but I do think that Japanese games aren't as good as they used to be.

2 people making this is actually pretty impressive.

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
Ok, now I'm inspired to actually try and figure out this code. I'm sure I'll give up but will try tonight to crack one of them.
Very strange decision not to have at least dropped a clue that one needed to do this however!

Re: Fez (Xbox Live Arcade game)
At the start of the game dot guy says you need 32 cubes to finish, right? 209.4 / 100 * 32 = 67, so maybe there's 67 total cubes in the game you can get? (like how in Mario 64 there were 120 stars but you only needed like 80 or w/e to beat it)
