I'm also firmly in the 3>>>NV camp tho I still enjoyed NV.

Both games were great. FO3 would have been the better game if it were balanced better but getting perks every level made you completely OP. Anybody who enjoyed one will like the other though, so I would definitely recommend NV if you liked 3.

I loved both 3 and New Vegas. If you can manage to play and avoid game ending bugs It's right up there with 3 IMO. Hard to say which one is better.

Not playing on a pc a fish move, especially a game that's going to have amazing mods.

Not all of us are pc games and not even those that are have rigs that could support the likely specs.

I own Fallout New Vegas, but only played it 30 minutes, creating a character and doing 1 mission. Really too early to tell if I will like the game or not. I got GTA5 and decided to spend my gaming time playing that game and Hearthstone.

Will hopefully have gaming time over the summer and will probably play New Vegas after I finish GTA 5.

Should I play Fallout 3 first. or is just New Vegas a good enough gaming experience, iyo?

FO4 looks like FO3 with better graphics.

Meh. I'll still end up buying it.

Apparently there was a huge leak last year about fallout 4.

Spoilers have nothing to do with story ! just release date "guesses" and stuff (The link however does have many story spoilers)
Spoiler:

RELEASE DATE: BGS has a "Roadmap" already planned out for Fallout 4 and a spinoff. I already was informed about it from the studio when I worked there, and I read it. Basically, the roadmap is this:

June 2015 - Fallout 4 reveal at E3, trailer only
July 2015 - First gameplay trailers
August 2015 - More information
October 2015 - PS4/Xbox One/PC release
November 2015 - First DLC
December 2015 - Second DLC, as well as PS3/360 version release
January 2016 - Third DLC
March 2016 - Forth DLC
April 2016 - Fifth and Final DLC
June 2016 - Fallout Spinoff revealed, in development by Behaviour Interactive.
October 2016 - Fallout Spinoff released for PS4/Xbox One/PC

Spoiler:

The map of Fallout 4 is about 3 times the size of Skyrim. The reason for this is to make a much more realistic and interactive world, that players can always find new things, even if they have played it for years after release.

How much does a decent gaming pc setup go for these days? My current laptop struggles with games made 10 years ago.

Waiting a year for the GotY Edition it is.

Since I'm starting to think about a new build I did some quick research on Newegg, using the best cheap but reliable brands and models you're looking at around

CPU/Mobo $300+
Case $50-$100
Power Supply $75-85
Video Card: $200 for a 960 GTX, $300+ for a 970 GTX
RAM $60
SSD $70-80 for 128GB, $120-$150 for 256GB
HDD $50 for 1TB
Aftermarket air cooler for $40-80, $100 for something like a Corsair closed-loop CPU water cooler

Total $850-1150 sans monitor, keyboard and mouse.

You can easily shave a few hundred off that using off-brand or lower spec stuff, but if you shop smart everything should last you 6+ years easily. Looking for combo deals or specials/mail-in rebates could knock quite a bit off too.

Fallout 2 is still the best Fallout, it makes me sad many have never bothered with it :*(

DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR WHILE YOU WAIT

(and then go beat Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape Torment)

Nah, NV > 3 in my opinion.

3 felt very linear to me, couldn't find much outside the main story line to keep me occupied (Three Dog side story was awesome, though). Started it up a year or two later, that time around trying to just stick to side missions, didn't get much more out of it that time around, either. Agree with the subway network being fairly interesting, though.
Dunno why, but it felt like I was constantly funnelled towards following the story.
If I had given it another go, I prolly would've tried going at it Brotherhood of Steel mode. In the end I couldn't be bothered with it because I had NV around which was more appealing to me.

Whereas with NV, I basically uncovered close to the entire map before feeling compelled to finish the story; had to go back to Novac to continue that.
On my second play-through went pure sniper mode, collecting all special sniper rifles.
Third time through hanging with the legion, on the fourth tried to play a melee only character (got boring fast).
Later bought the pack including all add-ons, rolled a luck focused character and still haven't completed all of them by the time I upgraded to PS4.

If it was available for PS4, I'd probably still play NV + add-ons on a regular basis.

You can put together a really nice desktop for ~$600(especially if you are in the states).

If you dont know what you are doing use http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/ there are people setting up hundred of pcs every day there with all kinds of budgets.

Giving New Vegas another try today, got the ultimate edition. (On 360, too broke for PC Gaming, ****. No mods for me, sadly.)

How's the DLC in New Vegas? Thought 3's was decent.

Loved the dlcs. I would be careful in new Vegas though. I think there are still several game breaking bugs on the 360 version.

You pretty much have to be a massive fallout nerd to love nv though.

This site:

http://www.logicalincrements.com/

linked to in the buildapc reddit give various price points of computers.

Keep in mind that the prices aren't exactly reality because they don't include OS, keyboard, mouse, or monitor. So don't look at that and think "I can get a 'good' system for $500" unless you already have an OS, keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

The one I built is under the "great" category (I was lucky enough to have an OS and monitor and only needed to get a keyboard and mouse) and it runs every game I own except GTA V at 60 fps (GTA V is about 50 fps). But I also don't own a lot of very recent AAA titles.

I wasn't too impressed by NV's DLC but I did only get Dead Money DLC. I bought a second hand copy of F3 GOTY edition and it included all the DLC which was sick for like $20.
