Lol I think Portugal can still be fun I just tried a grand campaign. I got wrecked by the Moroccans the first time around and had to get a peace treaty after they wiped out my entire army but I did beat Castille to Gibraltar and got them involved into my North African campaign and THEY got wiped out as well lol. So had to take like 6 or so years of peace and by good fortune they took a peace deal with Grenada and so I took Grenada as soon as my truce was up. Castille got pretty uppity after I did that and my reputation with them went from 180 to 20 lmao. So I snap sold them Gibraltar for 220 and then as soon as I could send another diplomat I unloaded Grenada for an additional 140. Now I got mad money and they immediately guaranteed my independence and now our relations are improving 10 a year North Africa is embroiled in a struggle between the Moroccans and Algierians so its now ripe for another conquest attempt.

You have to be in friendly territory (if your provinces are occupied, they don't count).

Can someone explain this screenshot to me?



This is in Andalucia. I wanted to look at the numbers before/after building a marketplace to see if production is affected by trade buildings like djstu said.

Before building the marketplace, the province was generating 1.6 units x 14.8 price + prestige bonus = 26.7 trade income.

After the marketplace (screenshot above is from after), the numbers say the same thing (1.6 x 14.8 = 26.7), but when I click on the CoT page for Andalucia and hover over the total value it says Andalucia is providing 29.2 ducats to the CoT, which makes sense.

However, for this screenshot above - wtf? The tooltip says I'm getting 7.89 ducats in production income and uses the marketplace-modified trade value to calculate that. The province view says I'm getting the same value as before the marketplace (and it's been over a month since I built the marketplace so it should have updated by now if that was the problem).

I've got football then i'm going out for a mates birthday. Sat afternoon is not the best time for me I will be around next Saturday for the game, so if everyone else is happy for it to happen i'm fine with the AI screwing up my first few years.

BEST GAME EVAR UPDATE:

AFTER TWO GOD DAMN HOURS we finally figured out why we were syncing immediately and fixed the problem, but by then several people had left so no game.

REAL GAME STARTS NEXT WEEK, SAME TIME, SAME PLACE, GLORIOUS SHALL HOLLAND BE.

My problem also went away, whether it was because I fixed it or it was because of the same syncing problem I dunno. But it now works. Hoorays.

the game wasn't sync'ing everybody's options at the start. So some people would be starting with lucky nations on and free merchants on, etc, while the rest of us didn't.

Result: Instant de-sync.

Kind of annoys me how the allies of a war don't get more options like say demanding compensation from the war leader before and after you agree to the call of war or asking the war leader to include their country's name in the negotiations for spoils. Really pissed me off earlier... had a peace mission and was gonna be done with it within a month or two and here comes an ally asking me for help they cost me a stability and the only way they didn't get overrun was me and my contributions but I got nothing but a lil prestige which I earned myself. ridiculous.

Another thing- a lil more common sense from the npcs wouldn't be awfully terrible either. I was at war with France and Aragon with Castille and I'd have more than happily backstabbed Castille if I got a lil smthin smthin. But nope the war score is 0% so they will only accept white peace not even pay me 25 ducats. But Dumb ass! Gimme a couple gold and now suddenly you're ships can leave port and you won't have to worry about 17k troops god. so dumb

if anyone gets annoyed with this I'm not hating on the game. The game is awesome so far but it could just be a lil bit better. theres always room for criticism

Luckily it's usually not an issue in MP.

I say "usually" because there have been some downright hilarious peace deals that have gone down in the past, as ranok can attest.

Can someone give me a "colonizing for dummies" guide?

I'm playing a game as Holland to try something new, after I got QFTNW I started exploring around Africa, I had a colonial CB against Kongo so I started beating them down, then did the same to Mali after establishing a colony next to them. Here's where I'm at right now:



I have the Azores, Madeira, the Canarias, Cape Verde, a few colonies between Mali and Morocco, five provinces from Mali (three coastal, two inland), and two provinces from Kongo.

Anyway, I find this adventure eating through my finances and I'm not even sure why. I get that it's like 20 ducats a year to support a colony, but I've only established 7 colonies and I went from having like 1500 ducats with an income of 100+ per year to having 100 ducats and losing ~20 per year (and my island colonies have been full-fledged provinces for a few years now...).

Also, is there a way to tell if a province is worth establishing a colony in? Two of my African colonies are producing........grain, which makes me a little sad that I wasted hundreds of ducats on a **** colony. I know you guys were talking about the New World colonies and how awesome they are, is it just something you learn by trial and error when establishing colonies (which provinces are good and which ones aren't)?

Also, looking in the mission files I'm supposed to get a bunch of colonization missions for the Caribbean, America, Indonesia, etc. but they don't trigger until they're in my colonial range. Is there anything I can do (besides hire those ****ty +colonial range advisors) to speed that up?

also new colonies start producing real trade goods only after while. They always start with either fish or grain.

Once a colony starts producing a good, the only way they'll change is if you reload your game before they hit 300 population. Also, if they produce slaves, and you pass the Abolish Slavery ND, they'll switch out for something else.

Basically, Africa sucks until you also start to colonize the Americas.

The world is divided into regions. North African colonies can produce grain or slaves; Middle African colonies can produce grain, slaves or ivory. It goes on and on. *edit: What is produced is a dice roll with modifiers based on other provinces you own, neighboring provinces, and sliders e.g. if you have more than 2 gold provinces, the chance of getting another takes a significant hit.*

The thing about Africa is that slaves start out with a base price lower than grain. However, world demand is significantly increased as more tobacco, cotton, sugar, and coffee is produced. Once you start colonizing the Americas, Africa will break even, then eventually become profitable.
