Not sold on this one. Magic's mana system is just extremely flawed system that makes 15-20% of games "non-games" where one player either draws too few or way too many mana sources. If I want to play with these rules, magic is just so much deeper game even if MTGO interface sucks.

Mana in this game is much more forgiving it seems. Also a complete redraw at the start of the game.

Highly disagree. I have a modern deck on MTGO, you're typical bad GP day 2 player, play magic 3x+ a week, etc.

I don't play MTGO anymore, I only play Eternal.

Eternal opens with a random 7 card hand. You can Mulligan once with a hand that is guaranteed to have between 2 and 5 mana. You also get to play with 8 to 12 dual lands depending on build and mana requirements on cards are less restricting. I just won 21 forge games in a row. I could never do that even again at a terrible MTG a.i. because of RNG.

Not denying that Magic is a deeper game, but I'm not looking to spend $15 every time I want to draft, or hundreds for a constructed deck.

Plus, the online-only mechanics + mulligan system favor Eternal IMO.

Haven't played a CCG since MTG 10+ years ago, never bothered with Hearthstone, I'll give this a look, thanks!

Game is great, been playing for 4 days and spent 35 to be used on draft and already have the cards to make all but 1 of the top 8 constructed decks in the most recent tourney that I was able to find.

Average return on a 7 win draft is about 6k gold + 4 packs

Been playing this game for about 5 months and enjoy it immensely. Strongly prefer it over HS, or any other CCG out there. A mini-PVE expansion is due out within the week. Good time to get into the game imo.

There is an Android app available for mobile. There is an IOS app but only closed beta users who applied a few months back are able to access it with no new invites going out. Once the game is out of open beta and "live" the IOS app will be published to the app store according to the devs.

magics mana is indeed the worst part of the game, the massive improvements are why I like eternal so much now

Yea it's similar to mtgs mana system but very different. Essentially everything is colorless as long as you could concieveably pay the color costs.

Stuff retaining bonuses gained via spells makes so many cool interactions. Giving a dawnwalker killer and constantly bringing it back is so satisfying.

Won't this just fade like Hex and every other Hearthstone rip off?

Disclaimer I've downloaded and will give it a try.

This game is very balanced and the developers seem to have no qualms with bringing down the nerfhammer is something seems to be getting out of control.

It's always possible, but there's a LOT of people that are getting burned out on Hearthstone due to the stale meta and lack of balance changes.

There's also some popular HS streamers (Amaz, Kibler) that are playing, so the visibility is definitely growing. We'll see if it plateaus out or not.

So I went 1-3 on draft, not sure what kind of cards to pick early on. What's your guys strategy for the draft picks?

For those of you that are worried about not having much of a collection yet and how that will affect your playing, I wanted to show off some budget decks to show you that you can still be competitive without having many cards yet.

I'll try and do a new one every week or so for a little while in an effort to get people on the fence to jump on over.

Today's deck is a Fire/Time deck that I took from the start of the ladder (Bronze 3) up to Silver 1 pretty quickly. It contains 11 rares, 4 uncommons, and 35 commons which ends up being 10,950 shiftstone (dust). You get 100 shiftstone for opening a pack and can disenchant cards for it as well. You should be close to completing it after completing all the tutorials/gauntlet/forge that give you free rewards.

With a lot of the decks at the lower levels revolving around building a giant minion with weapons or playing a lot of removal, the deck allows you to either just go wide around the one giant minion or cause opponents to be spending multiple mana to kill your 1 mana creatures after they already made a minor impact on the game. Many games involve hitting for early damage, teleporting their blocker, and then finishing them off with multiple charge minions or a team wide buff to attacks.

The deck is also very fast, which should enable you to rack up rewards quickly so you can start making decks that are more expensive.

RNGEternal has a decent draft tier picklist: https://rngeternal.com/draft_pick_order_nov_16/

It hasn't been updated since November, and it's missing some cards/some are misvalued, but it's a good general reference, especially for rares you might not have played with before.

Premium cards are generally Removal, Fliers, and Card Advantage.

I try to stay away from Time/Justice, since that combo has pretty weak removal, and it's too easy to just fall behind and never be able to catch up.
