Currently running kickstarter for the digital game, there is a physical version too if you are into that sort of thing.

Its made by two MTG hall of fame players and looks pretty decent. There are no random packs of cards like MTG or Hearthstone, you get everything you need with each expansion.

The kickstarter page can explain it best and there are a couple of videos on there too. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...me/description

What most appeals to me is the lack or screw or flood that you get in other games. Always being able to play stuff makes it at least feel more interactive.

There will also be a world champs with $100k on the line and you can qualify through the app.

Anyone else backing this or already playing the physical version?

They made Star Realms which is one of my go to phone games - I guess it's lacking in strategic depth (don't play a lot of similar games, its in the same family as Dominion, which is deeper) but it's a lot fun nonetheless. I just got into Eternal Card Game but I could see going for something like this. Having a standalone, free draft format would be a huge selling point for me - I don't care about keeping cards, the the idea of drafting decks from packs and playing those.

I backed this one Day 1. Fan of Star Realms and happy to get behind any project by this company.

Love the pay up front model for a full constructed playset and free limited formats.

I'm just hoping they find some way to make this work. Laddering with exclusive playmats and promo cards and stuff as incentive to play games rather than grinding for packs.

Latest email convinced me to back this at the last second, first time using Kickstarter

I'm generally not a fan of kickstarting games since you've usually moved on by the time the game is out. But since early access starts next month it seems like a pretty good deal to back.

I think this will be a better game for me than Eternal, as long as the play is enjoyable and the interface works. I haven't been enjoying constructed all that much and just want to run drafts and other randomized games that level the playing field some.

Got my alpha key, not sure when I'll be trying it out though, still pretty hard into Eternal.

Same, but I probably won't be touching this at least until I get a mobile invite.

Hmmm didn't realize that it was so much slower than Eternal, in that it's basically only viable to play it asynchronously. The interface is not as pretty and clean but it's still decent - I have to zoom in on basically every card because they all have a lot of text on them. Compared to Eternal, it looks dated though.

Tried a real time Random 30 game and ended up playing Eternal at the same time since it was so sluggish. That said you can start a whole bunch of off-line games and play them when your turn comes around, which is just fine by me. Been getting rekt so far but I do think I'll enjoy this one in the long run.

I didn't realize this was mostly played asynchronously. That doesn't sound very appealing.

Got my Android client last night, will probably get a chance to play through the tutorial tonight but probably can't dig in too far till the weekend.

You can play in real time but it's slow as all get out. I like it so far, lots to think about and multiple decisions per turn. I missed the iOS tier, though, so not sure how much I'll play tied to my computer l.

I did manage to try a few games and I have to agree about the slowness. It's not just that priority passes back and forth a lot, but the client just feels like it's running underwater. The animations are slow.

It's kind of "Duels of the Planeswalker"ish. A little bit too much attempts to imitate a physical card game rather than just embracing the digital.

I'm MJiggy on there if you want to do a draft or something. Won't be on this weekend but I'll be ready to go next week. I enjoy the gameplay quite a bit, hope they improve the interface as time goes on.

Next time I'm on I'll add you. Mine is the same as here: Krimson

I am pretty sporadic with my online time, but would be happy to try a draft if I catch you online.

I haven't really dug into this game much yet, so don't really know the cards or anything yet.

Well I challenged you to an offline draft if you want to try it out

Not that anyone's paying attention to this thread but in case someone wanders in here, I wanted to point out that draft is very fun. Each player get to choose from 5 different cards, then passed it to the next player who chooses two of the remaining four, then repeat until each has a deck of 30. Epic feels right up my alley as a whole, so far my biggest issue is keeping track of all the different possible actions on the board and in discard piles. Have not come close to winning a game yet, though.

Unfortunately doesn't run on my tablet which is where I play like 90% of the time. Will still be giving this a go but pretty disappointed about the above.

Will report it and hope they can fix.

I didn't get in on an iOS tier so I have to play on Mac, which is far from ideal - works pretty well, at least.

Enjoying the game so far but it does seem a little slow.

Prefer the real time games as the others just seem to go on for ages.

Strategically the game seems pretty deep. Way more than you would expect from how it sounds.

Finally got it working. Seems like it crashes on startup 75% of the time or so on my tablet, but will eventually run if I keep trying.

I just don't know if I can handle these async games. Got a beginner game started, waited 5 minutes for the guy to mulligan, closed app and went back to Eternal.

I have like 4 games running at once so there's usually a play somewhere - would be more flustered if I was staring at it on my tablet, where I just play Eternal while I wait for my opponents to play. So far I am liking this game but my main complaint is that some games seem to be over in the first 2 turns - I keep ending up hopelessly behind while my opponent has like 3 champions and a hand full of cards. Still the strategy is cool and I'm long forward to better builds and future expansions.

Yea, if it's not a game I can play in "real time" and complete in one sitting, I have no interest. They need Ascension-like turn controls.

It is playable in real time but turns feel a little rushed imo, since the game times out at 20 minutes per player. Hopefully they allow for customization in the future

I asked nicely for an iOS code even though they were sold out of the tier on Kickstarter and they had just me ship $5 on PayPal and gave me a code - works surprisingly well on my small iPhone and amazing on iPad.

I've ran out of time a couple games, although at least one of those games included a spot where action was on me, but I thought it was waiting for opponent's move, so I wasted a couple minutes. Still I'd say it's a bit too tight. They need a system where you get more game time for each turn played, and the ability to bank a portion of unused turn time into game time. These changes would probably allow the other time allotments to be reduced. This is well-tread ground, just copy a system that works.

I've been pretty happy with the pace of the game. After the first game, when my opponent seemingly didn't come back, I thought it was it was going to be some kind of asynchronous come-back-and-finish-later type of game, like Hero Academy, which basically kills the game for me. Instead, games have been "real-time enough" to finish in a single sitting, which is a must for me.
