alright after doing some tests i think my little calamity was the result of a bug. when you try to exit the controls while moving you're supposed to get this message:

but if you're going above a certain speed (>100?) you are able to get up. and you fly out the back of your ship even if its made of solid steel. the game still seems to think you're in the ship and if you place a block it will appear on the ship even if you're miles away (i placed a load of blocks in desperation when i was flying away from the galaxy and when i got back to the ship i found them)

have decided to continue to the 'fairly incompetent man blunders his way through space trying to not die' log until i die for the first time on this save. could be in half an hour, could be tomorrow, could be in a week. or i could survive forever? any deaths due to game bugs dont count

Picturing you playing this as Karl Pilkington tbh. Makes this even better. 6*

Dude, how are you building space ships and you haven't unlocked the repair tool yet?

Minor gameplay advice in spoilers, in case you want to figure everything out by yourself.

Spacewalk was A++

Spoiler:
Take out the core in these enemy bases then you can use the repair tool to reclaim all the components you need. Stick some cargo pods on your hovercraft because you won't be able to carry everything as you dismantle the base.

Also, make sure you build the H2O2 generator. It gives you hydrogen bottles, with which you can make hydrogen fuel packs. It takes a regular (promethium) fuel pack to run it, but it ends up yielding something like 9 hydrogen fuel packs for every promethium fuel pack you use--plus you get gobs of o2 bottles. No more wasting half your daylight hours getting seaweed.

I built a small vessel but then tore it apart to make a hover vehicle as it was easier to operate. Traveling the planet letting my turrets farm meat so I can make a lot of salami. Things don't run or fight back when it is shooting them.

every good galactic survivalist knows that you must be prepared to rain down genocide on your enemies from time to time. thats why a weapons test is of the utmost

there are two contenders in this test, the gatling gun and the rocket launcher

gatling gun

the gatling gun was invented by some yank in the 1800s. mr gatling came up with the weapon as a means of reducing the number of deaths during war. its fair to assume that mr gatling was not the brightest bulb in the box

rocket launcher

the first rocket-based weapons were developed during ww2 (unless you are a pedantic arsehole in which case they were first developed by the chinese in the medieval period). katyusha rocket launchers, pictured in action during the battle of stalingrad, featured extensively on the western front and proved to be a cheap and effective weapon against lightly armoured wermacht forces.

the test will consist of one strafing run of an old oxygen container (pictured)

x marks the spot

the two weapon systems will be graded on the following criteria: rate of fire, damage, environmental damage, intimidation factor, accuracy, reload speed and aesthetic beauty. the weapon will receive a genocide rating based on these factors

the winner of the test will be affixed to hms knack for the moon mission. the tests are scheduled for tomorrow

gatling gun test results:

46 bullets fired
40 damage per bullet (theoretical value) = 1840 damage
intimidation factor: high
accuracy: low
aesthetic beauty: high
envrionmental damage: zero, the o2 tank is pristine

genocide rating: 4/10

------------------------------

rocket launcher

6 rockets fired
225 damage per rocket = 1350 damage
intimidation factor: low, they look like modern plant pots
accuracy: medium
aesthetic beauty: abysmal
envrionmental damage:

Spoiler:

genocide rating: 1/10, you are Gandhi

we're rolling with the gat gun

did consider affixing the indestructible o2 tank to the front of the ship and using it and a battering ram since it appears to be the hardest substance known to man, but the game wont let me and anyway it might obscure the view

they are shooting mysterious green stuff at me but knack is too maneuverable to be hit by it
