magic is ******ed powerful in oblivion. all you have to do is make a multi-tiered spell that

1) lowers the targets resistance to magic for 5 seconds or whatever
2) causes magic damage
3) boosts your magic points for 5 seconds or whatever

this will kill almost anything in the game in like 4-5 blasts tops and since it boosts your magic points as the last step you can rapidly fire it forever. if you stop using for a few seconds you will lose the mp boost and run out of mp but as long as enemies are on the screen, just don't stop firing and you can use it as long as you want.

i used this spell throughout most of the game because i didn't like the combat and this allowed me to effectively avoid most of it.

i killed that big giant thing guarding the gate in shivering isles with it in like 10-15 shots. i think that thing's supposed to be impossible/incredibly difficult to kill without doing the related quest.

edit: for the ~second half of the game i used equipment (well and also the fact that i was a breton) to have 100% magic resistance and 100% damage reflect which also made combat much less annoying.

It just seems to have no strategy involved at all. You have no idea how many hit points a monster has, how much damage you're actually doing with your blade, what elements they are weak to, any of that.

So true. Glad I'm playing a mage. I have a sword which I use as a last resort, but I can't even tell if I'm hitting the guy half the time. I just swing like crazy until my health is low, then I run away, heal up. Rince, repeat.

I mean, srsly. How is the combat system bad in Oblivion? It's way better than games like EQ where you press "A" and it does the combat for you. If someone shoots an arrow at me in Oblivion, I can put up my shield and block it - that's ****in cool. lol "I just swing like crazy until" - don't do that, try to think of what you'd do if someone was attacking you, you'd probably try to block, not just close your eyes and slash around. And from what I remember, there is an incredibly obvious distinction between a hit and a miss in the game.

Other than the obvious THUNK when you hit something, there is also knockback and the life bar goes down.

If you can't feel that you just hit something, you might want to stick to games with autoattack. Srsly, noobs.

I guess I just don't feel like there's a lot of strategy in battles. When you know how strong an opponent is, you can tailor your strategies to that battle with potions/spells, and if you have an idea of how close you are to killing them, you can change up your tactics mid-battle.

I feel like in Oblivion, it is just do whatever is the most efficient way to cause damage and make sure you don't dip 1 hit away from death.

I also hate the world leveling. This is more of a personal preference, but I prefer RPG's where you can't just explore the entire world, you should get your ass kicked if you go to an area with tougher monsters/enemies and you have to wait to go there until you are more experienced.

World leveling is the ****tiest thing ever made. That's why you use mods to make it the most awesome thing ever.

wow mega nerdgasm

I was disappointed in his response to the faction question... please dont tell me theres no dark brotherhood/assasins guild!

Graphics look absolutely unreal (intricate carvings on mammoth tusks? sign me up), and thats on 360; I cant imagine how sick itll be on PC, especially once mods get going. Definitely anticipating this game more than... well any game, ever

There has to be, I think they're just not a "main" faction since they're always kinda hidden/underground.

Ya dragon being able to dynamically grab things in their mouth (including giants, lol) was awesome. Jumping on dragons head to finish it was also awesome

still play Oblivion, currently using a breton and trying for as many hand to hand kills as possible. We'll need another 360 before the release date at my house, its a favourite of my sons also

One thing I hated about Oblivion was how much repetition there was in dungeon types and bestiary.

Hope they change that up or 300H of gameplay becomes moot as far as I am concerned.
