Eh, if it's not open-world pvp I can't really be excited about it.

All of the beta writeups I've read seem to claim that the combat is even less satisfying than Skyrim, which is hard to believe is possible. Also, lots of boring long quest chains instead of the usual fetch/kill grind quests, which should be an improvement but somehow turns out not to be. Also maintains the clunky TES inventory/ui along with long scrolling lists, which seems particularly misplaced in an MMO setting. Everyone seems to think it looks great though, so there's that.

I'd verify for myself since I have a beta invite this weekend, but every time I visit the link from the invite email, it asks you to enter your birthday and just repeats asking for it over and over after submitting. Tried multiple dates from different browsers over the last few days, and no mention of it from other people after searching which is odd.

Skyrim combat is way better than any MMO I've ever played. Tab targetting is the worst.

There's no visual feedback other than your attack animation on contact, and apparently unlike Skyrim there's not much audio feedback as well. Network latency doesn't help either. I would think making combat *feel* interesting and enjoyable would be their primary concern. At least with Skyrim you had lots of emergent systems and free roaming exploration to fall back on, and those aspects appear to have been curbed here in the name of MMO balancing.

Yea we'll see. I haven't in my life played an MMO that had combat that was 'good' enough for a single player game. Maybe Eve Online? I like the idea that I actually swing a sword at an enemy as an effective attack.

I haven't played a launch MMO since EQ2 and this game is launching during a period where I'll probably have a month or two to enjoy it so I might take the plunge if I don't totally get turned off by the beta.

I thought the combat in Tera was really good.

The combat skill system allowed for a reasonable balanced mix of skills. The quests were texty and boring imo. I played maybe 6-8 hours fwiw.

From the background of somebody who doesn't do a lot of MMO gaming ESO feels very much like the others I've tried. This is probably a disappointing revelation for those who were expecting it to be more of a hybrid instead of a traditional MMO. It certainly has an Elder Scrolls theme, and the menus and interface will be relatively familliar to Elder Scrolls players, but in most other respects it just feels like much of the same as we've seen from other MMOs. Lame quests where you go from point A to point B doing something for somebody that you don't care about, tedious and unrewarding combat, and a slew of boring NPCs that you have to listen to. The 'create your own adventure' possibilities that have been a staple of Bethesda / ES games seem to be missing with little in the way of legitimate exploration.

Combine that with the pretty unreasonable costs and I'll be staying away from this one for a while. Perhaps if the content improves or it goes F2P I'll give it a second look in the future.

Yeah I've never understood the criticism of Skyrim's combat. I've disliked every MMO's combat system that I've played (didn't do too much combat in EVE though).

Game seems alright so far, definitely more enjoyable than other MMOs but I generally stay away from the genre. Will probably just play it for the beta and not buy it.

I actually like the textyness a bit, because it gives epicness and creates a story and atmosphere. A long time ago i played some really old games that had a lot of text in it and maybe i like it because of that.
I think there's a difference between two experiences:
1)you slay some monster, why you did it- you don't know but you got some xp for it so you guess it was worth it, you also got some loot so...
2)you slay a monster named xxxx who has been a burden to this ancient land for a long time and you just saved x amount of villains from terror. You actually know why you did it and can feel like you are part of a story and adventure because thanks to text the monster is part of the story and well connected to everything in the game. So instead of just grinding you can enjoy the story like a book, like an adventure.
Just my thoughts on why text might matter.

Hi Vanda. The thing is you can go play an hour of swtor and it is obvious why these text quests suck. There were a ton of times I run to the arrow end up having to read the quest and realized I had to run back and do something else. The quests were really annoying imo. GL to them at any rate.

Monthly fee for this is pretty high imo. Going to take some convincing, elder scrolls or not..

If its good it's worth paying for. If it's bad it's not worth playing for free.

From everything I see posted on other forums etc it seems like the game should be coming out in June, not April.

Yes, what I meant was that there is no way this should be coming out as soon as it is. Are we gonna get FF14ed again?

This review is funny. He says it isn't anything special, and says it should be Free to Play. Then says it would be the best free to play game ever. Well, why do you think Free to Play games are so ****ing ****ty?

Pretty much. Half of those players would have been better off fighting for another keep. Wasted player strength.

Some of the main devs are DAoC guys so that makes sense. They basically wanted to redo DAoC for a new generation.

Disapointing reading all the bad reviews. Was looking forward to this game and downloaded the sizeable game but i might not even bother waiting for the next playable weekend

The game, before level 10, isn't really that interesting. As you get into the world, into PvP, it's fun. At least as fun as an MMO has been to me in a long time.

A lot of the early reviews are from viewers who never played more than a handful of hours for their review or people upset at the cost. Star Wars TOR got amazing reviews from those same people and we know how meh and underwhelming that game ended up being.

Obviously I'm pretty interested/excited.
