I actually like the textyness a bit, because it gives epicness and creates a story and atmosphere. A long time ago i played some really old games that had a lot of text in it and maybe i like it because of that.
I think there's a difference between two experiences:
1)you slay some monster, why you did it- you don't know but you got some xp for it so you guess it was worth it, you also got some loot so...
2)you slay a monster named xxxx who has been a burden to this ancient land for a long time and you just saved x amount of villains from terror. You actually know why you did it and can feel like you are part of a story and adventure because thanks to text the monster is part of the story and well connected to everything in the game. So instead of just grinding you can enjoy the story like a book, like an adventure.
Just my thoughts on why text might matter.
