Dragon's Dogma review: The most hardcore RPG on consoles
Capcom delivers a hardcore, rewarding, and authentic role-playing experience

A lot of people who ordered from Capcom already received their copy. I played for a little while yesterday. Pop-in is bad and the story seems pretty meh. None of that bothered me, though, as the fun factor is through the ****ing roof. I have never seen RPG combat that comes close to what Dragon's Dogma has to offer. It's really fluid and there are tons of skills available. I sincerely hope that all action RPG devs take notes from DD on how combat should work. The difficulty level seems to be as advertised as well. I took over for a friend who was only a few hours in and it was already impossible to travel in certain directions without leveling up.

I can't wait for Tuesday.

he means that things in the world (for example enemies) seem to appear out of nowhere when you approach them, they literally "pop-in"

Re: Dragon's Dogma (demo is out)

It was weird. For as much stuff as there was going on during combat it ran really well but if I took off in a sprint through an open field the pop-in was about as bad as any game I've played, I think. It happened with everything including random, non-essential NPCs when running along trails. It never happened with enemies, though. I was always able to see them from a good distance. The devs must have rightfully given them priority.

I am really curious as to how other reviewers will judge about the nonexisting story in relation to reviewing the complete game. Both Game Informer and CVG highlight the combat system as one of the best on consoles, noone cared about it in Dark Souls...Cant wait for it, f**k Diablo 3...

Re: Dragon's Dogma (demo is out)

debating whether to preorder for releaseday or wait a week too see some more impressions. defintely sounds interesting and im a huge demon/dark souls fan too so this should hopefully be almost as good. i remember kingdom of amalur, which is somewhat a similar game, got alot of good criticism when it came out, but after a couple of days people realized it was so easy to the point it wasnt fun playing.

bought the witcher 2 yesterday because i didn't want to wait 5 days for dogma... boy i made a big mistake. i think the game is horrible :L genuinely can't pick one thing i like about its presentation, combat system, plot or supposedly amazing graphics.

gonna trade it in on the 25th when DD comes out in the UK.

I needed the whole first act to get into this game. Its very very complex, story is more confusing than welcoming you as is the combat system with all its options. And for me it was also frustrating because i play on dark and most enemies can one or two shot you when they hit you from behind with 200% dmg. But I guarantee you it gets more fun once you are into it, advance in the skill trees etc. For me that started with act 2. So dont be too hasty about this, it has flaws and as i said before its overhyped imo, but its still good.

Re: Dragon's Dogma (demo is out)

I've had this for a couple of days now. Is nobody else playing this? If so, that's a shame. I'm having the most fun I've had in an rpg in a long, long time.

Apparently the augments (but not skills) you have purchased from each vocation can be transferred when you switch vocations. It's going to be a long grind trying to collect the best augments from each of the nine vocations to make a character strong enough to travel solo or with just one pawn. From what I've read, people are saying it has taken them anywhere from 15-25 hours to reach level 9 in a single vocation.

Anyway, I'm about ten hours in now and it keeps getting better and better. The combat is still amazing as well.
