I think the reason why they do not want to use a micro pay model is because it usually destroys the balanced scale of games. By going with the standard pay model they ensure a balanced competitive game which it seems they are striving for. Pro gaming has obviously taken off in recent years. I think they are clearly trying to become one of the "it" games for competitive gaming with the $1.6 million prize pool. By becoming a top competitive game they probably will get future ways of accruing additional revenue whether it be advertisements or expansions.

Icefrog basically said they would start inviting people soon. Also people are now allowed to stream themselves playing, release screen shots, etc.

What do you mean every level?

I don't know why there is any hype. I got one as a favor (which I appreciate) and it is basically Dota 1.1. Literally everything is the exact same except it now has an interface and slightly polished graphics. Oh, you can also watch games in progress which is cool I guess.

I've only played 5 games and since you can choose which regions you want to include in your game search, it doesn't take very long to start. I don't know how well put together they actually are, but all I care about is playing.

I'd trade or share my key for D3 beta. I'm not selling it so stop PMing!

I suppose you can also reconnect after disconnecting from a game?

All I'm saying is that as far as I can tell there is 0 innovation or creativity.

It would still be huge, even if the only difference is eliminating maphackers and disconnecting issues

oh and skill based matchmaking right? so tired of taking 10 minutes to find a decent non-pubstomp game on dotacash.

hon should have been dota 2

sadly the community is still fragmented on 3 games (well all 3 communities probably suck hard, that just comes with the territory...)

But dota 2 is probably trying to get all 3 communities together and make huge tournaments and stuff

That is exactly what it is supposed to be. It's dota on a new client (steam). It is supposed to be an exact replica of the original dota besides a new interface and graphics until the rest of the heroes are done being implanted I wouldn't expect anything new besides of course the match making and customization. Game play will stay the same besides some new modes such as 3v3v3v3 and jungle only mode.

From watching the streams I would say the games run fairly often. Seems like most people get a game every 5 - 7 minutes. Not sure what you mean at every level but it seems like a lot of friends play together. Some are completely bad and others are world class pros so the skill level range is very wide.

Dota on WC3 is still insanely popular.

Dota 2 continues that, and opens up new possibilities for future development and features.

Exactly, I assume it used to be just Icefrog and a small group of people helping him develop the game. Now he has valve to support him. There is no doubt that when all is said and done dota 2 is going to experience some changes.
