sportsbooks dont always get it right, especially in esports where the game is constantly changing afaik.

theres no way CDEC is pulling off some 1 in 1000 miraculous upset to make it this far in the international, they are clearly on par with the other teams that were rated as 50 to 100 times more likely to win TI.

frankly im not sure why CDECs odds were do horrible. Did they just play like complete **** in the months leading up to TI? Or is it a case of them playing to the level of their competition, and them just not playing a tough schedule?

is it possible for cdec to win this, but there not be an all china final?

cdec was the worst of the "top" chinese teams (just above HGT), theyve never won anything, they got destroyed by ehome in the chinese qualifier, and they barely won the wildcard match against teams like north american rejects and vega.

Cdec has never been relevant in anything before this TI.

Yea. That would knock EG down into the lower bracket and they would play the winner of VG-LGD (which is the last series today). If EG wins that matchup, then the finals becomes CDEC-EG.

I guess what i'm trying to get at is that if you were setting the lines for a TI5.01 that happens 2 weeks after tomorrow, there is no way secret is a coinflip to win (they are still prob the favorites, but maybe 3 or 4 to 1?) and there is no way CDEC is 1000 to 1 or what ever ridiculous odds they were, they are probably closer to 40 or 50 to 1 (still have to get through the wild card after all, the more matches you play the higher chance you lose regardless of how good you are)

cdec were a bit better in the upcoming months to TI tho.

But still like the power rankings in china were

LGD=VG > IG> Ehome > cdec = newbee

ok, i thought you were arguing that secret should still have been a coinflip odds to win TI based on your previous post. we are in agreement then

sure, but i still think secret would be the top seeded favourites if TI was starting again tomorrow. (or perhaps EG )

now where would teams like cdec and ehome (who did almost as well as cdec until they met VG) would rank up in the power rankings/odds to win, not sure. A bit above the average for sure.

Another example is VP wouldnt be ranked top 6 even after their nice showing.

The moral of the story is that Tier 2 Chinese teams are equivalent to tier 1 teams when compared to ROW. This has been the case for a loooooong time but people just don't want to admit it.

non-secret european teams were beating IG and VG in the months leading up to TI

and IG and VG were leagues ahead of Tier 2 chinese teams

That doesnt mean theyre gonna win it everytime.

I wouldn't say massive favorites, just favorites. And books on esports are a joke, as proven by secret being 50% against the field

Kirby look at the top 8 teams of TI2 all the way to TI5. How many of those Chinese teams would have been considered Tier 1 by anyone?
DOTA 2 Quote
08-07-2015 , 05:31 PM
pretty much all of them

or are you trying to say that tier 2 chinese teams are better than tier 1 chinese teams? what youre saying makes absolutely no sense... maybe alliance and navi were tier 2 chinese teams too then that would make more sense.

Like this is literally the first TI that a team that wasnt considered tier 1 is top 3.

*last i argue about this i dont wanna get mad while im enjoying some dotos

You thought that just before TI3, Tongfu was a tier 1 team? Just before TI4, Newbee, VG, IG and LGD were tier 1 teams? Just before TI5, CDEC and Ehome were tier 1 teams?

You might have thought that way but most people would have thought, "lol boring Chinese dota, Zzzzzzzz."
