What's so different about the private servers? Do they speed up the leveling rates?

Most of the time yes, and usually dramatically. It is private that is the difference. The owner sets the rules of the server, can put raid drops on vendors, the community can vote on something like a change, etc.

It's a great way to get it out without the commitment of paying for a whole month, then feeling like you wasted your money just to play for a few minutes/hours.
The private server I played on just wasnt the same (wowscape).

A lot of skills/talents were bugged, monsters were walking around buggy or not moving at all, and super laggy.

I play on scape nowadays, have for about 6 months, the dcs seem to have all but vanished, I rarely have lag, but yes, the monsters don't act properly. Unless you've tried storm, they were supposed to script more things on there.

I don't exactly play the game because I like seeing monsters patrolling back and forth, though, but there are a few around that pat, though not the majority.

Granted, some skills/talents didn't work, others could get you banned, but once you get used to using what you have available, it's not so bad. I was stunned the other day when I was able to bubblehearth on my 65 pally when I got jumped by 3 70's. (They didn't know what I was doing and kept trying to attack, I was all like lawl!)

You can typically find out what works and what doesn't on the forums. There was a pally topic that had pics of the three talent trees, with color codes denoting what worked, what was bugged, and what was plain broken.

It is a private server, though, so it's not meant to be the same thing. It's just a good replacement for those of us that don't want to commit to paying a monthly fee.

Is wowscape considered the top private server? I've decided to cancel my official account since I only have time to play for 1-2 hours at a time. Private server seems to be a good route for the casual player since you can get stuff done quicker and don't have to play for 8 hours/day.

It's them or .. some other server, I can't recall their name. maybe burning wow. At peak times, bw supposedly has about 2k people playing total, whereas ws has ~8-10k. The wowscape website doesn't push you nearly as hard to vote, though. The bw website's vote mechanism is incredibly pushy. (I wanted to try their server, but kept getting interrupted by the Vote Now thingy popping up.)

Also, it's worth mentioning that for the last month or two, ws's website has been under constant ddos attack (distributed denial of service). They've had to invest in some network security company blah blah to help them deal with it. Not saying it's one of the other sites from the top100, but that is the speculation. (I don't have access to the records from the attacks, so I can't say one way or the other. But it's either that or a few of their ex-employees, one of whom stole about $4000 iirc)

I'm kind of falling out of it right now. Haven't played much in the last week, got exams coming up. Already cut my subscription off which ends at the end of April but I doubt I'll subscribe and play over the summer. Grinding from 62-70 is just really a lot worse than grinding anywhere from 1-60 iyam (even though Outlands is pretty sweet). Even on rested exp (which is the only way I will grind levels out), it's pretty painful, and loses a lot of flavour. Great game, but I definetly go through phases of it.

I went from like 63-66 in 3 days, 67 took me about 3 days, 68 took about 2 days, and I'm currently at 69 with about 500k XP to go. I agree that rested XP is the best way to go, but sometimes it's not worth the wait when you actually want to get there. I'm going to play some more after 10pm tonight and see if I can get to 70 because I get around 12-14k XP per quest plus the XP I get while doing the quests.

I'm still questing in Netherstorm.

This is why, when I restarted playing the game last, I just bought an account. (Well, I'd done this a few times tbh)

Good advice: Find someone selling an account with a lot of characters, and get them to transfer one to you. I got a priest with full epics, great rep levels, and epic flying mount for $125. Probably saved about $75 or more doing it this way. As an added bonus, there's no way they can screw you over on the sale. Once it's transferred to another account, it can't be transferred back, so the worst they could do is get the toon banned for selling it, but then they'd be out the money you paid them.

Anyone know when S2 Arena Gear will be in Champions Hall to buy with honor points?

Edit: and I don't mean, "When S4 starts." I want to know an estimated date, like next month, 2 months, etc.

I played for a couple months, got up into the 40's and then just stopped -- roommate got me back into WoW. The game was alright, it did some things very well and others poorly, although on an MMO scale, I prefer WoW, and on an aRPG scale, I prefer D2. Shrug. I hear they've been doing good things though with respect to maintenance and updates so maybe I'll go back instead of paying for WoW over the summer.

Pretty sure blizzard said it would be a while after sunwell launches, so I would say ~2 months is a good estimate.

Low Key,
Does wowscape always disconnect this often? I started today and I've been disconnected at least 6 times in 2-3 hours. I do like it a lot though. It will be fun if I don't keep getting dc'ed

Except the amount of time youd have to invest to be competitive would be insane.
