Diablo 3 Diablo 3

As someone who never played through previous Diablos, I'm completely undecided about how to first approach D3.

Here's a two-part question I have for anyone/everyone: when Diablo 3 is released, (1) what class do you think you'll play first? (2) why will you choose to play that class?

Even casual players (3-6 hrs a week) should be able to have a max level character of each class. In terms of which is first? I always tend to choose the most OP PvE class so I can learn the most efficient way of leveling/MFing. Then I proceed to make the other classes. I'm guessing you've played WoW before...don't expect to be spending as much time on each character as you did on WoW. This means you'll have more time to roll a new character. Once you've got max level character, all you need is to farm for your best gear (through trading, scamming or finding).

The two classes that interest me so far are Wizard (Sorc owned the realm of MFing when I played D2) and DH (obv. NE WC3 player's first choice).

Good to know. I really don't like the time sink of simply going through the motions on a new character.

This is exactly what I'm interested in...I probably should have phrased my question as "what do you anticipate being a good farming class" for those that will start with that motivation.

I am also interested in what people's favorite classes are, too, for those people that plan on starting a character for reasons other than farming, but I would guess [and I really have no idea about this] that most people will pick a class that they think they can get loot with quickly/easily.

D2 was so centered around loot though. I didn't play D2 until a year+ after it came out and I rolled a barb because it seemed like the simplest character to start with. Soon my friend who got me into it convinced me to roll a sorc and then I started MFing and then the rest is history obv. But now with the limitations on teleport it's less clear cut, especially if gold is going to be a bigger factor than it was in D2. I think even with my first ever barb roll, my friend still ended up rushing me through a ton of content just to get up to speed, which is something I'm going to avoid in D3. Just going to pick a class (witch doctor, I think), get him to 60 and learn how to play the hell out of him. Really going to try to avoid to get caught up in the farming madness right out of the gate, at least. There's plenty of time to farm but you only get to truly experience the content fresh in a game like D3 once -- the first roll.

^ well said, i agree but i think the loot frenzy will consume me pretty much instantly

Loot is the only reason I loved playing D2. I miss hearing the items drop after I kill Meph/Pindle. I remember at one point I could pretty much tell what items dropped based off of the sound (at least had a good idea...****ty items had the same drop sound as their equivalent uniques).

Also, it was easy to make lots of money selling these items early on in D2. The allure of making $200 on a WF drop was riveting.

I never managed to find a WF, but I found a bunch of those 'second best crossbows' ... ballista or something? Not 100% sure but they were slower than WF with less damage, but still was a top tier item... I remember going crazy when I found my first one of those

But I do agree about the sound of items dropping, I miss that too...

*Item Drop Sound*
*Baal's RAWR*
And then 6 TP's open lol

Also, im sure its been discussed but I probably missed it.... but, cow level? Any talks?

BURIZA DO KYANON

Inferno is Blizzard's new cow level probably. Also, I forgot...but what made someone able to create the TP to the cow level multiple times? Did they have to leave before the quest was finished or before the last cow was killed or something?

Ballista was probably a 2nd tier item. It was only worth 2-6 SOJ (6 being a near perfect ballista) when I played. Windforce on the other hand was something 40 SOJ or 35 SOJ + 40% ED jewel or whatever. This was before duping and all those rigged items that I've never heard of before. Ballista was a slow ass weapon as far as I remember though. Javazon was the way to go for cow tipping. Didn't require expensive gear to be insanely effective.

When you ID an item in D2, are the stats predetermined (ala PStars), or is it determined the moment you ID it (ala FTP).

what are the differences in teleporting between d2 and d3?
09-29-2011 , 07:48 PM
quick d2 question: if I were to play now in single player, how long would it take me to roll a decent magic find character and then find some top tier stuff?

ye depends what you mean by top tier

if you mean like lvl 80+ uniques probably not until d3 is out

youll prob find a hoz or shako tho

was def gonna roll wizard but i heard they nerfed teleport? isn't there a cooldown now? DH looks pretty badass and you really can't go wrong with barb as your first class.
09-30-2011 , 01:31 AM
yeah theres a cooldown of like 10 seconds unless you rune it.

But I dont think teleporting is as important in d3.

I think I will roll a barb first, but I will have one of each class. The only class that I am not drawn to at all is the monk, anyone else feel like that? To me he just feels like a barb but not cool.
09-30-2011 , 02:15 AM
I was into the monk at first but now I'm thinking its basic archetype is "melee glass cannon" and I think that'd just get really annoying

I've seen the monk die in beta streaming more than any other class

As somebody that only played single player Diablo 1 and 2 (read: had no friends to play with and joined the bandwagon late), somebody explain the basics behind why multiplayer is infinately better and why I should (or not) be playing it in III. Not sure if I can justify paying full price for III if I only intend to play single player, but I also don't want to invest in a huge time sink.
09-30-2011 , 03:15 AM
Cadaz, it is similar with almost all games. The interaction with other people while playing multiplayer is better than any AI that you will ever come across in single-player mode. PvP is a whole realm of D3 that you are missing out by playing single player. This is probably a weak analogy, but compare playing poker with bots (with play money) vs playing against real people (with real money). There is a vast array of territory that play money cannot cover that real money does. Simply put, single-player does not give you the full experience of the game. When playing multiplayer of any game your ability to win or advance in the game is not based on some predetermined difficulty that you can decide, but instead it depends on how well your opponents play.

Harder - the more people join a game, the harder monsters become - more loot and xp.
Better - usually easier and more fun to play with others - ladders + PvP. The only reason I played D2 was for PvP.
Faster - complete the game way more quickly.
Stronger - ... have no idea, really wanted to make a Daft Punk reference.

I really want to roll a Witch Doctor, but I got the impression that he's not really strong in PvP, by his items he seems more PvE oriented.

So far, what do you guys think will be the strongest classes in PvP?

Imo from strongest to weakest:

Monk;
Barb;
Wizard; Demon Hunter
Witch Doctor
