once you are 20, need to get equipment with more light to level up. can get it as rewards in crucible or strikes, drops in farming, or buy with crucible/vanguard marks or strange coins.

I got rocked first time I tried it, hour+ of fail When CPHoya and I did it a couple days ago, it was easy enough with him handling the mobs with an arc shotgun, I focusing the bosses with an arc sniper.
This was a cool inkling of what raids might be like. We actually got to exercise some strategic cooperation and it was really enjoyable.

I remember seeing a video(might have been posted itt) with a developer saying there are some times later in the game where you'll basically need at least 1 of each character to complete a mission. It's not mandatory but will make it easier. He also said cooperation is a must.

Then some really good reviews from a bunch of places I've never heard of (isn't it supposed to be the other way around for super hyped releases??) push it up to 75 overall.
I've only played the beta so far (bought the game but haven't had time to play yet) but the Polygon and Verge reviews seemed dead on to me based on that. Some great elements, and some that will appeal to a specific type of gamer, but not for everybody.

In the end- I don't care how pretty you look, I am so not interested in spending 25 minutes in a boss fight and I'd like a lot more story and variety.

I'm hoping it proves more entertaining, because I think part of my issue was just not investing knowing it was a beta, but reading people in here excited about 2 hours boss fights. Man- way different priorities.

When you're adequately leveled / equipped for the content you're doing, there are no 2-hour boss fights. It's when you're trying to boost beyond your character's capabilities that the misery kicks in.

The boss fights can get tedious. Doing the level 8 strike with a group level 8-10 was tedious in spots, the spider-tank being the worst.

They also need to tweak the looting a bit. Killing elites or bosses and not having them drop a single item is a let down.

The 1st time I tried the level 8 strike was with an 8 and 12. It sucked ass. After 4 tries the other 2 people left so I quit. I didn't go back until earlier today at level 11 and was with a 14 and 10. All 3 of us needed resurrecting a couple of times but other than that we never had to restart and blew right through it.

I still haven't been back to the Crucible. Thought I'd try to get to 15 before going back.

I'm getting ready to start focusing on the Moon stuff since I think I've done everything possible on the Earth at least twice and I'm positive I still missed stuff. I've done the beginning stuff on the moon but felt under leveled so I went back to Earth and redid everything.

Okay, so I'm in this giant place with people running around everywhere. I have no idea what is going on and no clue where to go...

This is intimidating.

This is how I feel at Christmas when I make my 1 yearly trip to the mall.

Yeah, Spider tank was brutal when I first encountered it in the alpha / beta. Now, it's pretty easy to dispatch him in about 1 minute with a coordinated team. Spoilers below if you'd rather figure this sort of stuff out:
Spoiler:

Immediately take out the vandals around the edges of the map - them sniping you is unwelcome danger. Spread out, but not too far in case revives are required. There are many areas on the map where you can duck in and out of cover to avoid his very powerful cannon (obviously telegraphed with red laser).

All 3 members should have equipped (most likely switch to) the highest level + best impact sniper rifle as secondary, before picking up secondary ammo left by the previous stage. Focus sniper fire on one leg - call it out, "front left" etc. A couple of rounds from each of you, his armor will blow off and he'll go into a super vulnerable position for 5-10 seconds - shoot the red core exposed by his neck, again with sniper rifles. reload as soon as you see leg armor blow up. Two or three of this and he's done for.

Everyone should be aware of additional villains spawning, and take them out quick (scout rifle / hand cannon good for this at distance, shame to waste sniper ammo)

If you have them, rocket launchers to the legs are good too, but ammo for those is scarce, and reloading is slow. they are poor for shooting the exposed weakpoint in the neck.

Team members should carry a green ammo resupply for their rifles, available from the weapons merchant. Not required, but it certainly goes a lot slower if you run out of sniper ammo.

There are undoubtedly many other effective techniques too - this is just what I do and find quick.

Then on to Sepkis Prime - snipers aren't too bad again, I prefer to just hammer him in the eye with a high-stability autorifle + rockets when I get them.

This I can certainly agree with. They do often drop a (valuable!) tiny pyramid credits booster, which is well worth picking up. But it looks terrible. Even if they only dropped 2-4 green engrams/items, occasional blue for higher levels - it would look amazing and be about a million times more satisfying, especially the way the engrams pop out and roll about! edit: for bosses anyway, elites are far too common later on / if you encounter an event to be guaranteed spewing multiple greens and blues.

Got an exotic bounty today! Had to pick from 3 options: pulse rifle, shotty, hand cannon... I went with the hand cannon Thorn. A few hours later and I got my first two legendaries from engrams: a pulse and a shotty!

Still stuck on getting +500 score in crucible from void weapons only though. I had to spend some time time trying to get a void damage sniper/shotty first... save your weapons with various damage types people!

Finally to Level 15 Hunter.

So close to getting balls deep into the fun parts of this game, but still just a little work to do.

When does the week end? I'm assuming a new week starts today... because the raid is being implemented.

Thanks for the responses on the Arc damage!

There is a new raid available for level 26s. They released it during the night last night and nobody has beaten it. Pretty crazy to think that the diehards/no-lifers haven't beaten yet. That gets me pretty excited about the game. Love that PvE isn't a walk in the park
