i'm like half-way through the game

the best way to describe it is god of war + NES dragon's lair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJosEn-B-Bg). its not really more of an RPG than god of war, despite the nerdy dungeons and dragons setting

theres a few really ******ed sub-stages but for the most part the game gets better and better. there's some really sick set pieces

From my friends who have the game, it is a must own if you are at all interested in the genre and have a ps3. I am picking it up as soon as I get my TV moved in because I refuse to experience a game that has a lot to do with immersion on a pos tv.

Seems like there are a lot of great titles that just came out, and over the next 3 months on PS3 and cross platforms. (Uncharted, Demon Souls, Modern Warfare 2, MAG, etc)

I purchased this today, my first PS3 game. The guy at gamestop said they get like one a day and they sell it before it gets put on the shelf. I feel lucky lol. Best Buy didn't have it.

Any recs/info on classes to pick? I will likely start playing tomorrow.

I thought 1-1 was hard til I spent 6 1/2-7 hours today trying to beat 1-2 only to fail miserably. Looks like I'm gonna have to do some soul whoring.

This game requires a lot of old-school rpg farming to level up.

Anyone?? lol.

I see there is a Hunter class, I'll prolly roll that since I was a hunter in wow and I've always preferred the ranged attack either via magic or arrow/bullet to the tank hack and slash.

OMG, it better not be anything like DL, that video is hilarious though.

I picked the hunter class so I could snipe **** with the bow, but once you get past 1-1 you can upgrade whatever stats you want.

Hunter is pretty fun? How are the mechanics for shooting? Clunky or smooth?

There's an auto lock-on feature that works with both melee and ranged weapons and a zoom feature for long bows. It's not FPS smooth, but it's not bad.

Thank you, Falcon. No spoilers but how far in are you? Is there a boss at the end of every subchapter like the Phalanx at 1-1?

Wow, this is the best game I've played in a very, very long time. I'm almost done with Uncharted 2 but I must say I like this more. Now I'm going to do some soul whoring.

Also Falcon what attributes do you want to level up the quickest? I am a hunter, so no magic needed. What have you found as important?

so am I understanding correctly that you have to get through 1-1, which is apparently a pain, then the game really opens up and you can start leveling? Are there any side quests to keep you occupied?

Meh I tried to do 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, and 5-1 but it looks like those are going to be impossible without leveling up enough which probably requires beating 1-2 etc. I'm not good at this game but man it's a blast.

There aren't side quests in this game that I am aware of, besides rescuing certain instructors for magic. The CLEAR choice for starting the game is ROYALTY... don't make the mistake of not choosing this class at the beginning, they start with a decent amount of magic power and their spell 1 shots nearly all foes on the first level. Royalty also starts with a rare ring that regenerates MP over time, please do yourself a favor and start as this class if you buy the game. You can make your character into whatever you would like later on, so the decision is not binding. Use Demon's Souls wiki and a walkthrough if you want to do this game right, and also be prepared to farm the same areas over and over again to obtain the currency to upgrade your weapons and skills.

I beat 1-1 and then just started ****ing around in the other worlds. I've been running around looking for loot, collecting souls to upgrade my stats, and dying a lot. There are several boss characters. I upgraded my Faith and Magic stats to 10 so I could have at least one spell and one miracle. After that I've put points into Dexterity, Strength, Stamina, and Luck. I'm not that far along at all.

Also, the best areas to farm so far for me are 4-1 (the silver skeletons are actually pretty easy with a 2 hand sword stance), and 1-3. If you backtrack in 1-3 you can 1 shot the blue knights and farm lots of grass from them. Get the Purple Dragon shield or w/e it is asap, and prolly get the winged spear since its OP. Buy evacuate ASAP (20k souls, miracle). Be sure to get the 2 very important rings in the first level too... the cling ring makes it so instead of having 50% health bar you now have 75% in demon form, and the thief's ring allows you to move more stealthily and aggro less enemies. The Thief's ring will also be essential to killing the crystal geckos later on to farm the easiest stones. If anyone has any questions I could help them with toss me a PM or something.

Glad to see this thread finally picking up btw. This could end up being really awesome for help/info if we get enough people with this game.

Timmay go to the Demon's Souls wiki page I linked, click tips and tricks, then click thief's ring. The ledge where you will be jumping off is right before the trap with all the barrels and the guy with the firebomb. He one shotted me at least once, so I deffo remember quite clearly where this was.
(Err yes this is in 1-1)

ah ok, I'll keep that in mind. So there really isn't a class per se, its just what you start out as?

Right... you dump points into your stats as you collect currency (demon's souls). The only downside is that you start at soul level 1 as a royalty, but the immense frustration you will be saving yourself is more than worth the extra time you will need to spend farming. The ring you get is really nice... wish I started my first guy as royalty.
