I'm really glad I spent 13.4k souls on that ring to take less falling damage and still can't jump down the hole in Majula without dying.

Wait ok so I wasn't mistaken that my health was going down everytime I ****ing died. Wtf this game is kinda pissing me off with the changes they made. They could've easily given you less flasks and made them heal slower. It seems like they just made this game intentionally obnoxious to a certain extent. Also in case anyone also isn't noticing....enemies don't always all respawn after a while so you can't farm inf souls to try and beat the game. Which would be fine if you didn't lose them....wtf is with this game?

It's the Demon Souls system.

The mechanics of the game aren't illogical. Certain enemies stop spawning after you have killed them twelve times. Maybe they decided to put some sort of cap on farming to encourage players to find a way through beyond making themselves OP.

Ah, hadn't figured out why guys stopped respawning. Good idea imo. Remove farming cheese PLUS remove nuisance enemies that you can easily kill that just slow you down.

In Forest of the Old Giants or whatever...

Spoiler:
There's a dude in armor sitting at the tree, looking like he's sleeping/dead. I can't talk to him or anything but I can target him and probably attack. Should I?

I didn't. Message said "tough enemy ahead" so i let the sleeping dog lie.

Spoiler:
Beat the Pursuer. Pretty cool and tough boss fight, I feel like playing as a dual wielder definitely makes the first play tougher because you can't just block everything.

Lost Bastille kinda kicked my ass, when all those goblin guys gang up on you it can be really tough. Boss fight is proving difficult. I can beat the first one of the 3 fine, but then I feel like I have to jump down into the pit with them or I just get wasted instantly. I'm having trouble finding spots to get hits in when they're both down there at the same time.

But at least you won't have to wade through hordes of enemies when reattempting to beat a boss, no?

I imagine many of you are way farther than I am but for anyone who isn't and is like "**** this having 1 estus flask ****", here's where I just found my first two:

Spoiler:
- in Majula, go to the locked mansion at the end of town, out front is a well. Knock the rock sitting on the edge into it, that will pull a body up that has an estus flask shard
- in Forest of Fallen Giants, after going down the ladder from the Cardinal Tower bonfire and into the wide open area with all the wooden ledges and like 3 archers firing at you, at the far end of that arena is an entrance to a small cave area. When you walk in a boulder will roll down from the top left area; go up past it and an NPC will be there looking at the ground. Talk to him a bunch and he'll give you the key to the mansion in Majula, go back there and down to the very bottom of the mansion and past a lone skeleton is a chest containing an estus flask shard

Is it just me or does DkS2 feel much more like DeS than DkS in terms of player movement, camera handling and combat. Im a DkS veteran having probably logged more than 1k hours into it, i made a quick walkthrough last weekend as a warmup for DkS2 and I must say the first hour yesterday felt soooo awkward because i am/was so used to DkS controls. The first minutes i was nearly like "wtf have they done nooooo"... DkS controls are much more tighter somehow in comparison to DeS which i really liked while playing DkS but now after playing a few more hours im comfortable with the controls in DkS2.

The only thing thats really a small disappointment is the graphics. The game is based on a completely new engine and...well all the texture artists must have been on drugs. I dont need super realistic graphics but the environment, the colors etc. must be harmonious and i dont have that feeling right now after playing the game up to the first boss. I really hope it gets better later although after all i dont care because gameplay matters...

Waiting for the PC version, but if I were to only ever play one (seriously, I'll never play both), should I go for this or Dark Souls 1? Graphics aren't that important to me. A couple things like the above comment and rumblings about the weapons not having the same "thump" they did in Dark Souls 1 make me wonder which is the better overall game for a first timer.

i dont know how many people are playing dark souls 1 online now, so I'd go with 2 for sure

I really hate the limited spawning thing. I understand their reasons for it, but it's not the right decision imo. Too often it feels like the game is giving back to you after struggling through an area after so long. That's not the spirit of Dark Souls.

ETA: Also I do love the whole life reduction/human effigy mechanic - BUT, I think human effigies should just simply be more common.

Is there a summoning rule like in dark souls 1? I'm not getting summoned in previous boss fights nearly as much as I was, now that I'm level 90

The limited spawning also limits farming though and soul mining

Yeah, I mean I understand that. I've played/beat DS so I understand the game is supposed to be difficult. It's just if I want to take 100 hours to make my guy a ****ing badass then you let me grind my guy to becoming a god. The fact of the matter is.....you eventually basically can't beat the game in theory w/o becoming highly skilled. That's a serious gameplay mechanic flaw. DS was tough because you had to stop, learn enemies and eventually dominate them and if you died you had to get your ass back through it all! This is a somewhat broken game and I'm a bit underwhelmed. I don't feel that sense of awe when I get to a new area like I did in DS.

Yea as I said, I understand their reasons (including the ones you mention here). It just doesn't come out on top though imo.

Well said. I don't think it's exhaustive of all the problems with the system, but it's 100% correct.

How many hours in are you? I thought I read somewhere after awhile it opens up and gets better, but it was a critic giving a review so who knows. I agree make it an option you can turn on or off for farming anytime during the game. That would please both sides of the argument.

Is there a consensus on who "the first boss" is? I went to Heide's Tower of Flame first but it seems like there's multiple areas you can wind up in to start with.

I'm not very far in obviously. But I always keep an open mind to these spots where I'm like meh. I certainly believe it gets better. But what was great about DS was like "Oh snap....that's a gigantic tower. Lets go THERE!". I'm hoping it eventually is like that. I'm still pretty early but my main gripe was the mechanics listed above. Honestly I'm kinda glad I redboxed this for right now and didn't shell out 60+ aorn. I'm really hoping that changes cause the hyphee I felt driving home with this game was unreal.

Edit- Had this post typed up while I played some more on a new character. I get to the early jump in the very start and it glitches on the rock when I jump back and I died. It clearly was me hitting an invisible wall too.
