Equip a shield with high magic defence to reduce the damage from her shockwave attack, although it's better to run away the moment she jumps up. Maneuver round to her sides when you're attacking. Once you figure out the timing for her sword swings, they're quite easy to dodge.

Used Drake Sword with Knight's Shield. Was running around her sides but would get hit with swings or die to super attack. But after hours of practice I guess I finally got the hang of it.

just fyi, the knight shield kinda sucks for its weight. there are shields that weigh less and offer better stability (higher stability means a reduction in the stamina you lose for blocking an attack).

try grab yourself a balder shield or buy one of the shields from andre the blacksmith imo and upgrade a little.

yeah the main trouble with Queelag is that big explosion attack, it simply does massive damage. you can tell from her movements when she's gonna do it but it's kinda impossible to judge that when you're behind or or near the back. i block it as a last resort if i didn't get away quick enough but my main advice would be to run like the wind when she looks ready to do it

Got a balder shield. Would you recommend using that through the endgame and upgrading it, or save the upgrades for a better shield?

Balder shield isn't really worth the upgrade, IMO.

Think silver knight shield is the best medium shield for upgrading as it gets to the stability cap of 70 fastest.

Black knight is good as well, better resistances but weighs 1 pound more.

Eh, ignore what I said about the stability cap - that's wrong. So Silver Knight looks like the winner among medium shields.

Silver knight shield is actually my favourite shield. I only recommended the balder shield because he's relatively early on in the game and it can drop from balder knights.

Silver Knight shield is better all around but it slightly heavier. Grab one in Anor Londo and it will easily see you through til endgame. However, I like to pick my dark souls weapons and armor for aesthetics a lot of the time and i personally think balder looks cool Balder for form, Silver Knight for function imo (Plus, everyone seems to have a silver knight shield)

Recently finished a playthrough with the dlc. I found Kalameet incredibly hard. I think I died against him even more than against O&S in my first playthrough. Really unforgiving battle, particularly if you're not too good at fighting two-handed. I didn't initially have a +15 weapon as I was playing a faith build. I got one which I didn't have the strength to wield one-handed. Ended up beating him without ever swinging my sword - used a lot of lightning spears and pyromancy.

Absolutely yeah hehe, I remember my first tries with him. This encounter punishes you for even a millisec of being inattentive.

I kinda want to do a playthrough with a backstabbing thief character that uses the bandit knife and Iaito. Does it make sense to start as a Wanderer and get my Int up to 15 for GMW? Guess I'll be keeping the Hornet Ring equipped. For my other ring, should I use Ring of Fog or Havel's so I can wear heavier armour while keeping my equip load <25%?

Yeah i think wanderer would be a good choice, the endurance, hp and str just suck too hard on a thief, plus i think wanderer starts at lower soul level with similar INT.

I also take it you mean ring of favor and protection, not ring of fog? Either way i doubt you'll need either on this kind of build because i'm assuming you'll be relatively poise-less.

Could go with the FAP ring for the HP boost though...

I did mean Ring of Fog but I get why you'd think I meant FAP ring. What I'm getting at is: should I wear an equip-load raising ring so that I can wear better armour? Or should I stick to light armours and use the second ring slot for something else? From what you said, it's prob best not to worry about increasing equip load if playing a thief.
