Dark Souls (Demon's Souls 2) Dark Souls (Demon's Souls 2)

I'm curious to hear what people's favorite characters were to go through the game with. I really don't like pvp that much (I don't think the online system is well developed and don't think pvp is really all that deep) so I'm mostly interested in going through the game with new/interesting types of characters.

ETA: FWIW my fav was my big strength-based guy with a monstrous great club. Battle tactics was blocking/dodging and getting a big jump/R2 type hit when I saw openings. Added faith in NG+ which was a nice supplement.

i was also drawn in by a monstrous strength build with huge hammers, axes and greatswords. however, i haven't started NG+ yet and i'm already soul level 98 and cant help but wonder if adding faith or intelligence to my character would be cumbersome.

i have however started a seperate character which is a dex/pyro build and the dex weapons are amazing.

also plan on starting an int/faith mage character of some kind

Does it bother you to know that's the "easy" hydra?

Yea I pretty much added faith because I thought switching to the grant and boosting faith as a second scaling attribute would be a way for me to continue my damage progression (which it did, but not nearly as much as I had hoped). Stopped in the Duke's Archives in NG+ just out of boredom/wanting to play other characters.

I have 2 other characters I'm trying out now:
1. Thief/dex/backstab/whatever you wanna call it. Right now just using the bandits knife w/ lots of dex and end, thinking about adding in Ricard's Rapier when I get it.
2. Sorcerer. Just pure intelligence & sorceries. Just got to Sen's Fortress - game has been a complete joke. All bosses destroyed on first try very easily.

Honestly, not really excited about either character, which is why I asked this question haha.

yeah the general consensus is that magic is way overpowered. as much as i still like playing dark souls from time to time. i dont find PvP or NG+ terribly rewarding.

absolutely adore the game though

The definitely attempted to address the problem of being able to run past enemies in Dark Souls compared to Demons Souls, but they nowhere fixed it. I can get to Quelaag, Iron Golem, and the Gargoyles by running past enemies and maybe having to block once or twice. Once you learn Sen's Fortress you can just sprint right through it. They should have more fog doors where it won't open until you kill everything before it.

thought having not played demon souls, i don't think running past enemies is as bigger problem in the difficulty level of dark souls as you do.

it seems like a lot of areas will punish you severely if you just try to sprint through on monkey tilt. being hit in the back still seems to do devastating damage even with a powerful character, and once just a few enemies swarm you, they can knock off all of your health very quickly without you being able to heal.

running to queelag isn't too much of a bother. the bonfire you reach after defeating her means that most of the time you don't even have to run there anyway. sens is indeed very easy once you know how to get through it though. but one mistake can still leave you devastated. overall i feel as though the balance is good.

brag: just beat the bosses in anor londo first try. my brother was insisting that i would need help from other players because it's real hard to do it yourself. he says they were probably nerved in a patch. is this true or is he a fish?

Yah pretty much all the monsters and bosses got nerfed. Also weapon damage was improved across the board except for lightning/fire weapons which took a small hit.

Soul drops were increased as well, so you're higher level than people would have been pre-patch.

hmm i started the game unpatched, made it through to Sen's and I'm currently on the Iron Golem. I didn't really want to patch for the difficulty (even tho I used the drake sword) but I just had to connect to XBL to get my netflix going....hmm what do i do...

Dont think so, only to 1.0 by deinstalling and playing a new game offline, you savegame data is marked with the current version as well...

Didn't get the patch, currently having a bitch with the bosses in Anor Londo. I can kill the Dragon Slayer, but I have no answer for the Executioner Electric Butt Slam. I'm using a Wanderer build with high DEX and very light armor.

do u have the eagle shield? it has high lightning res and high stability. anyway, i just killed the little guy first by walking away and having him follow. he's faster so i would get him 1on1 usually. with the eagle shield (or ****ing ez mode patch 1.5) his attacks didn't do much and i could get some hits in. once he was dead i would just dodge most of the fatty's attacks. i guess the butt slam you just have to roll away asap. i have a dex build too. is your equip burden <25%?

With a fast moving character you should be able to roll/run out of the way the moment you see him jump in the air. Most of his attacks should be easy to avoid. The charge is nasty; you need to immediately run directly away from him, not to the side as his hammer swings sideways. Getting behind a pillar should protect you.

Does anyone else use the index-finger-on-the-circle-button-so-you-can-still-control-the-camera-with-your-thumb move? I've found it to be amazingly beneficial for this game, and I've gotten so used to it that it's second nature to hit the circle button with my index instead of thumb now.

Dark Souls PC coming out on 24th August. There'll be new areas and bosses. Who's thinking of getting it? I might do so if they take advantage of the PC's power to buff the graphics.
