For some reason I wasn't letting myself consider this game until today, where after reading a couple reviews I may be past the tipping point. I will probably be playing this game in a week - it looks amazing. I generally buy 1 big game a year and play the hell out of it - this seems like the one.

Since NMS was kind of a dud, even after the last big patch, this may be the thing that gets me to turn on my PS4.

I will be shocked but pleasantly surprised if this game lives up to half the hype.

The hype looks very real with this one. There's a ****-ton to do in this game, and the graphics and combat look fantastic. Most of the reviews really praise the story too.

Bought the preorder and pre-downloaded. When it says "playable midnight of Feb 28" does that mean what it's technically supposed to mean, which is tonight? Or do they mean tomorrow night? Probably wouldn't be able to play til Wednesday anyway but just curious.

For some reason I feel like X is usually sprint in these types of games so I keep jumping once before randomly sprinting off and it's making me LOL. Game is indeed great so far.

Once it really opens up, it's pretty incredible. This is hands down the most beautiful open world I've seen. The variety, the verticality...just wait until you head west. You'll see what I mean. I can't believe what they were able to do on regular PS4 here.

Played for a little under 2 hours or so for the first time last night. Enjoyed it a ton. I'm not a huge graphics junkie - I did appreciate them though - but I mostly just enjoyed the gameplay and the little bit of story so far. The hunting mechanics seem pretty cool and fluid.

I didn't want to put any skill points (or whatever they're called in this game) in or fill in any modification slots without giving a bit of thought as to what (if any) build I should be doing. Has anyone considered this? I think some kind of ranged/stealth thing would be right up my alley, but I don't know much about it beyond that. Will be doing some reading in the meantime.

I have been slightly thoughtful about skill points, but have still spent them all as they come in. Stuff like "increase X when Y" seems must have and may as well be sooner than later.

Mods I don't worry about at all. You can overwrite them if a new better one shows up, and I imagine the ones we're picking up now will be trash compared to what we'll see later on, so may as well fit them and make use of the extra damage / whatever.

About 5 hours in, game is great!

Yea good call on both accounts. I'm not planning on being super stingy, but I just had 1-2 hours of quick playing and figured I'd look through the menus more carefully another time, especially when I was pretty easily taking down machines with like 1-2 R2s at this point, haha.

You can earn enough skill points to fill everything. The cap is 50 plus you earn points from quite a few missions.

I went straight for the last column of forager. I hate having to worry about gathering materials. I've had more than enough materials for ammo and plenty to trade for high level guns. I just keep whacking animals when I see them for upgrading carry capacity.
