PS4 servers confirmed down so no online interaction

Probably won't be up until release day. Gutted!

It doesn't matter with my schedule but Monday is a dumb day to release a game.

I assumed they were releasing it "Monday afternoon" (USA time) cause it's Tuesday in Euroland?

Also, saw this while looking for release info, LOL

Polygon review is somewhat negative - don't click if you want to stay on the hype train, and I think a lot of their complaints seem like they held it to a higher standard because it's a Dark Souls game, and it's hard to live up to the first one.

Are you on PS4? How's performance? The biggest worry I had from the Polygon review is crappy framerate.

The Digital Foundry article suggests performance on PS4 is solid (aside from the annoying frame-pacing bug) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...uls-3-face-off

Maybe the Polygon reviewer was super-sensitive to frame pacing, or their "debug hardware" was just messing up somehow (and wtf, why not use retail?)

I've been playing the Japanese version on PS4. I don't have any real complaints about the performance. I would say it's on par with Bloodborne.

As far as Polygon's criticism regarding linearity: It does not have a bunch of areas wrapped in and around each other like DS1, but some of the areas are really big with multiple elevators, ladders to kick down, etc.

As far as secrets go, I'm finishing up my second playthrough soon and have a lot left to discover. The complaint about the key on the body outside the door is weird. What a non-issue lol. If they just let that guy open a door without the need for a key at all, do they get docked points, too?

Yeah, none of those complaints matter to me at all. I just want to kill awesome monsters.

I think you're in luck, then. I would take this boss lineup over that of any of the other games.

I wouldn't worry about one review, considering the vast majority of reviews are gushing major praise.

Besides, they already said DS3 will have slightly fewer distinct areas than previous soul games, but the areas themselves would be much bigger and more intricate.

So rather than areas connecting with other areas, they connect within themselves. So I believe all the exploration and shortcuts and stuff will be there, they're just mostly contained per area.

Anybody find it early in stores yet? (PS4 version) I know for a damn ass fact the stores have them and just won't sell them till Tuesday. I did find a local GameStop doing a midnight release thankfully.

In the old days you could very often find clueless retailers who sold them early.

That's become harder though.

Last time I found a game early, was like 6 years ago, I was at Wal Mart and saw a game put out probably over a whole week before official release and I was like SCORE and when I got up to the register to pay for it their system caught it as like not being allowed to be sold and they wouldn't sell it to me (solely due just being unable to ring it up).

Maybe I could bribe some minimum wage GameStop flunkie, then again they probably have their computers setup the same way.

For me personally it was probably DS1>Bloodborne>Demon Souls>Dark Souls 2.

Tough to choose between Demon Souls and Bloodborne.

Favorite challenging area/boss combo to this day Anor Londo (FU Archers) with Ornstein and Smough.

Honorable mention boss fight would be the DS2 DLC Sinh which was an absolute epic scene with its music.

Worst game in the series but still a good game. It's just missing something, you know? I loved the DLC. I probably have 300 hours played of SotFS.

One new awesome mechanic in DS3 that I somehow only just discovered: holding down on the d-pad brings up your estus flask. It's just a split second longer than tapping, too. So nice.

Not quite sure what you mean? previous games the flask was on the item bar and you just hit the item button you use it right?

Yes, but you press down on the d-pad to rotate the items. You still press down on the d-pad to rotate through items, but holding down on the d-pad for a split second auto-selects your estus flask. Not having to press down on the d-pad seven times or whatever to find your estus flask in the middle of a fight comes in very handy.

Oh ok, yes that's a great feature. I think over-rotating the item bar past the estus flask has gotten us all killed at least a couple times in the Souls games.

Shortly after I posted that I found out that was specifically for Steam with a simultaneous world wide release of Midnight CEST, which works out to Monday at 6pm Eastern. Not sure about Xbox or PSN.

They'd be stupid to unlock it RIGHT at midnight, given the number of things that could go wrong. Activating it a few hours early seems just way better in every way.

Then again, releasing the game in Japan 3 weeks before the US version was pretty stupid too, so nothing would surprise me at this point.

I have this preordered from Amazon, unfortunately it'll arrive on Thursday. I considered cancelling it just now to preorder on ps4 for immediate download, but honestly I'm not sure I'd have time to play it until Saturday anyway. Either way this is gonna be a brutal week...
