I'm sure most people know but you can get DS3 Day 1 Edition for $47.99 at Amazon if you have Prime and pre-order.

Thanks for the heads up on the deal when you paid for it

Started a DS1 play trough in preparation. Made it all the through to the Gargoyle boss without dying.

All those hours of dying finally paid off as apparently the move sets for most mobs in the game are permanently etched in my brain from years ago.

Been thinking about Dark Souls 1 and what made it so special (and what made DS2 not special). I think DS1 is the only game i've every played where it was a huge thrill and relief to make it back to a place you've been before.

Yep, 2 was way too generous with bonfires and warping from the start. Plus Lordran > Drangleic

Still love both games though

From what I understand DS3 has warping available from the very beginning in it as well, which I find disappointing, but overall I'm very optimistic for 3 because Hidetaka Miyazaki is fully in charge again.

I found out recently that the main director for Demon Souls, DS1, and BB was not the director for DS2, only a supervisor, and some new guy was running the show and they really didn't like what he was doing, and they replaced him midway with a different guy who was a lot better, which is why supposedly the DLC of DS2 is way better than the original game.

So it's not a surprise that DS2 has a slightly different feel to it than the other Souls and Soul like games.

Luckily Miyazaki has back running the show for DS3.

And yeah, I like DS2 just fine, it just feels largely uninspired compared to the other FromSoftware games I've played.

Bloodborne has this a lot imo, especially in the first half

Yeah Miyazaki IS SOULS. The warp issue is definitely disappointing as it takes away some of the sense of accomplishment and fear.

One thing I think might be interesting is keeping a death counter for DS3, to see how many total deaths it takes me to beat. It's something I see a lot of streamers doing, particularly first time players. I can really only roughly guess how many times I died in my first ever DS1 play through. Anywhere from 100-250 is probably about right but who really knows. I know it was obviously highest in DS1 and way lower for DS2 and BB.

Game came out in Japan today, as such there are a lot of people playing it now, live streaming it, reviewing it, all that stuff.

Not sure why the 3 week delay between Japan/US release.

Ive been watching some footage and man this game is beautiful. Also for anyone that was worried that this game would be too easy can stop worrying, Miyazaki is back...

Friendly reminder for everyone to use the spoiler tag in this thread on specific information/tips once we are able to start playing this game. Not too much longer!

I played the Japanese version for about five hours last night. All I can say is, this is amazing so far.

Xbox One players can get the English version already by purchasing the JP version then switching back to English before download (perhaps a bit more complicated, don't have xb1)

Trying to stay clear of most content before playing the game myself, but I'm open to spoiler free text/reviews and whatnot - if they're quick and don't blabber too much.

And my god.... this might be the best game ever. Gonna be a rough two weeks.

I'm actually taking the 11th off from work so I can play this the moment it's released Sunday night. I haven't done that since the Modern Warfare 2 release, and I'm basically a retired gamer these days. So stoked.

Well, ****. Gotta change my time off request now. Thanks for that, btw. I very likely wouldn't have figured it out until I tried to launch the game Sunday night.

So what class are people thinking of starting as?
I'm debating between Assassin/Sorcerer/Pyromancer. I play normally play a strength/Int type of build so it looks like I have several cool options here.

Assuming nothing's changed since I put my last spreadsheet together, probably warrior. I like going hard strength-only, getting really good at dodging, and just enough vitality to not hate my life.

Frames are incorrectly ordered to produce a stuttering sensation, and our hopes of From Software addressing the issue are once again dashed.
Dammit

Doesn't really bother me, but I know it does others and wish it were not present.
