Finally got an xbone so playing through this right now.

It's a Souls games so it's inherently great, but it's a bit disappointing it's the exact same monsters, weapons, items and spells all over again.

I've just beaten some ****ing giant head. Old Lord something and am in some snowy location battling pontiff knights.

Jfc this game is intimidating. Any resources for super noobs? I rolled a knight and got past the first boss no problem but I have hardly any idea what to do from here.

Can probably watch lets play videos or something? Some say it's best to just wander. I personally like a little sense of direction so I'll trudge through and sometimes use a guide to not waste copious amounts of time.

This is the best way to play the game, you only get to be a dark souls noob once. Enjoy getting reamed.

Seriously. Figuring out combat on your own and making incremental strides is the most satisfying feeling I've ever gotten out of a video game.

If you're PC master-race, Steam has DS3 on sale until July 5th if you've been holding out.

It's a game that expects and rewards exploration, experimentation and trials and tribulations. However, I think looking at one of the many beginners guides is a nice way to prime you without feeling like you have to do homework just to play a ****ing game.

This page is a solid overview of the basics: http://kotaku.com/tips-for-playing-d...s-3-1770600428

If you want more depth, this video will help without compromising the exploratory nature of the game: https://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/04/a-...-dark-souls-3/

Thanks.

Getting the hang of it. Decided against reading guides. I'll occasionally look at loot lists to see if i missed any important items, and have looked up some weapons to see what stats I should be focusing on.

Was on the wall and the game got a LOT easier when I crafted a raw halberd. I don't like its main attack but its range is insane and with the kite shield it's super nice.

I realized that you can get a 100% physical block shield fairly early on so I'm sort of regretting rolling herald, but so far the heal has been clutch in saving me estus flask usage. Focusing mainly on strength and vigor with the occasional point in stamina. Had to put a few points in dex (at 14) to wield the bow and halberd.

This game's ****ing awesome. I took down the first boss, vordt, on only my second attempt last night so I'm feeling pretty cocky and like I'm getting the hang of things. I think I rely on my shield too much so I'm trying to roll and parry more but the timing is strict and my roll sucks because i'm at 68% equip ratio.

I really didnt expect to enjoy this game so much. The fear of dying, the difficulty, not being able to pause or save scum, the prospect of being raided by another player etc etc make this a game that I wish more games would model themselves after.

And you're only playing the fourth best Soulsborne. Just wait until you get to the good stuff.

You can only be invaded when you're in human form ie not hallow so you shouldn't get invaded that much tbh.

Not sure if this kind of debate is worth getting into, but I think this is a wildly uncommon opinion.

(1 > 3 > bb > 2 imo)

You're missing Demon's Souls and I think most put BB above DS3.

BB and DS3 for me is pretty close, though. If I could only have one playthrough of either, it would be BB hands down. If I could only have one to play as many times as I like, it would be DS3.

I think I rate BB abnormally low (it'd be lower than DS2 in my original list if I were being honest). I take off massive points because I basically consider it an action game, the RPG-ness is much lower compared to DS.

I also started and quit Demon's twice. I find it hard to go backwards with games (I didn't try it til after DS1).

I've got DS3 > DS1 >>> BB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>DS2

Dark Souls is the GOAT up until you get the Lord Vessel. It sneakily kind of sucks from there.

DS2 DLC was amazing...too bad the rest of the game wasn't...it was still fun, but is the bottom of my rankings just barely behind Demon Souls.

I feel like im relying on a guide more and more. I finished undead settlement and missed two huge ****ing areas with some important items/npc's.

Thats why i sometimes use it mainly. Its super annoying to miss critical things esp end game.

I'd blind it as much as possible. You only get a first playthrough once.

Lots of people don't have time to play 30+ hours into a game and then replay it again or want to replay the same game 2x.

I'd try to do the first play through blind if you're going to do more than one. But if you're only going to play through the game once, I'd definitely go with a guide.

You'll play it again after you finished the first play through as you'll start to discover lots of stuff you missed and how you naively gimped your build.

That's all pretty normal on a first play through. The great thing about the souls games is that you can start a new game with a completely different character build and it feels like playing a different game.
