It's a modifier you get from Priest and Burgher/Mayor vassals when you're opperating out of a Castle, because you are a different type of holder. Bit silly, but that's what it is.

Can minimize it by making those types of holdings minors/baronies, not the province/count level. Can rig that up by revoking them and giving them to a Baron (castle holder) in that prov. Eventually the Barony will magically become the main holding (I think it switches when it gets inherited), the Baron becomes a Count and gives that wrong holding to a vassal under him.

Can do it in reverse too if you'd rather have Bishop/Mayor provincial vassals, but they suck so why would you?

The child mortality rate is WAY too low. No way a 0 year old count has a near 100% chance of living to adulthood in 1105

Re: Crusader Kings 2

I've played EU3 quite a bit and I'm thinking about getting this game. Just, is it very similar to EU3 or does it have new ideas in it and is refreshing? I feel that Paradox games are often quite similar, so that it's not necessary to buy every game.

What I've read in this thread so far sounds really good though (I guess because I'm kinda a history/middle age freak)

Think that was a design decision. CKI had many more children, with many more deaths in childhood. For CKII, they decided to have fewer children, but with a better survival rate. For roleplaying purposes, I just assume that my wives are trying to have me Edward the Seconded because they're miserable from all the stillbirths.

Re: Crusader Kings 2

I just played the demo for a little while and I still have no idea what I'm doing.

I went through the tutorial, but it didn't really help me. I played the single player and still have no idea what to do. I just put it on play at the fastest speed and made a few decisions here and there, changed some things here and there, sent my council out to some surrounding lands every now and then...

But I have no idea how anything affected anything and what I was trying to accomplish. The game seems like something that could be really fun, but then again, the learning curve seems pretty steep.

Any suggestions on how to learn the game faster?

I found a tutorial and Let's Play on Youtube, which helped out a ton.

I went and played another one last night and was part of the Byzantine Empire.

2 Questions:

1. I took over a county and then there was a problem with a heir succession. I think the heir to a Bishoprec was part of another vassal so if the current bishop died, I was going to lose the rights to it? Or something like that. How do I fix that?

2. I started having revolts because of my taxes. How do I manually lower the taxes to satisfy everyone?

Re: Crusader Kings 2

1. Might be tricky. A lot of times there's nothing you can do. Maybe you can change your succession laws (if there are semi-cheating gamey solutions i don't know them)

2. The laws tab

I checked it out and I see how you can lower the taxes. I started a new game a little bit ago to look at it, started the game by lowering the taxes as low as I could and still they eventually got upset about it.

I don't know. I'm going to have to watch some more of that Let's Play and see how the guy progresses through the game.

Try playing as a Duke in Ireland for your first game.

only real option tbh

Another one (for pussies only tbh) is to nominate someone in your realm, if the crown laws allow it (Free Investiture = you can nominate the heirs to bishops).
