Sweet. I tried it and it worked.

I'm playing as the Duke of Connacht. It's much more peaceful, without a lot going on. I'm not really pushing the issue of trying to conquer Ireland as it seems like I'm in pretty good standing with everyone. I've been working with the Mayors and Bishops to raise their opinion of me.

I have a Ducal Claim on Breifne, but I'm not sure I would be able to beat them in a war. I'm not exactly sure how to estimate it, but from watching the LP, I think the armies are pretty even.

My guy is 67. I thought he would kick the bucket a lot sooner.

One interesting thing is that my son had 2 sons, and the one son set up a plot to kill the other. Was pretty funny.

EDIT: Oh yeah....he just died at 68....gonna get interesting now.

Hmmmm...so my game ended unexpectedly. Not sure if it was because of the demo cutting me off or because of something within the game.

I tried taking a SS, but it wasn't taking the SS of the game.

In the center it says:

"After playing 2 characters, you have lost your last County. [Player name] disappears into obscurity. With of a score of 545, you have not accomplished anything of note."

And the date is 1 January 1086.

I'm leaning towards the demo just cutting me off, but I don't know. Did my guy just run away? I had an heir under him. He had 2 sons.

I just figured out that if your child is educated by a heretic (maybe also by someone of another religion) you can choose to switch religions. I did this and now can declare holy wars against my neighbors (I was playing as the kingdom of serbia so was orthodox)

I am wondering, is it possible to switch from orthodox to catholic or muslim in the same way? are there other ways of switching religion?

yeah ur kid will often take the religion and culture of his or her mentor

if your court chaplain gets converted to a heretical belief then you can choose to convert also. its a random event. have him research cultural tech

Ya, the Demo only lasts 20 years (rounded down), so til Jan 1 1086. The 4 default demo picks are there cause they can still be pretty active in the short time period.

This game needs more love. I haven't even played all the way through one full game yet. I keep restarting as I discover new things to do! It's sooo deep and strategic! I think I got it together this time.

Tip for newbies: I've been using the Earl of Dublin, starting in 1066. His father owns the county south and will die soon into the game, giving you a great location to take over Ireland rather quickly and move into England/Scotland.

Some of the mods are excellent. I've been playing CK2+ since my first game playing vanilla and I think it is a much better gaming experience.

Is there a way to get electors to vote for your heir. Now I just kill (assassinate , excommunication and execute, another way?) the other claimant but that pisses other vassals off and cause other problems.

you were right! I bought the game that same day and already played like 70 hours... and I'm gonna play on It's just way more awesome than EU3, because it gets more personal with all the characters to play. Gonna write an AAR for my second game I guess.

Btw.. as I'm already writing:

My grandson is heir to the kingdom of Norway (I play as Scotland), because his mom is the Queen of Norway and his father is my son (but not heir). He's in my dynasty but that doesn't mean that I'll be able to control the kingdom right?
So the only way to profit from this inheritance is to kill off all my heirs until I get to play with the one who also inherits Norway?? Is there another way?? It's kinda messy to kill all my heirs.. but yeah.. it's CKII

Start here: http://youtu.be/bJhoyHE26lg

I learned how to play from him and recommend it.

Then if you're still interested, start watching some of his Let's Play.

Someone in this thread suggested I start with any of the countries in Ireland, which I did, and it is significantly easier than trying to start somewhere where everyone hates you.

Finally got back to playing again. My graphics card died two weekends ago and my backup card wasn't good enough (X300) despite the lack of graphics in the game. Just got my new card installed.

Man this game is great. Love the role-playing.

I'm getting to the end of a game I've been playing as Leon (i think the year is around 1370) and I have been getting a lot of freezes and have to exit the game and restart it from the last autosave. Anyone else having this problem?

Had a pretty good sesh today.

Started a new game as the Earl of Ulster. Got married, had a load of kids and started making key alliances with people in the region. My eldest was a homosexual but aside from that he had brilliant stats, so I didn't have him assassinated. Anyway, he inherited and then it was time for the conquering.

Managed to form the Duchy of Ulster, at which point the Duchy of Meath had claimed 5 territories. I arranged a marriage with the daughter of the count of Briefne, had a son with her by some miracle, killed her so that the son would inherit the claim, conquered Briefne on behalf of my son, then had him killed. Married the female heir to the Duchy of Meath, kill the Duke of Meath, then managed to produce a single male heir to the dynasty. When he inherits I'll have full control of 70% of Ireland, at which point I will happily crown myself King.

Man, this must be what Littlefinger feels like.

dude, forming the kingdom of ireland should go in 1 generation, max 2. Claim them counties and kill them all!

After that the fun starts

Perhaps Ireland needs some re-balancing since you are all having no trouble forming a kingdom that never formed.
