listening to sound was one of the most crucial elements of CS. I've never played source, but if they messed up the sound then I could see this removing another element, thus removing another variable that can separate the pro from the noob.
I mean, I guess you've never seen or played competitive CS? Pros miss shots all the time. How does having larger hit boxes lower skill differential (it's not like they are even 1.5 times larger than 1.6)? If anything I could argue it requires more skill because you need to have better positioning and faster reactions as well as a perfect shot. If pros never missed shots, every round would always come to a 1v1 and nobody would get multi-frag rounds. With this logic, whoever sees their opponent first and gets a shot off wins the round because everyone else will just trade frags down. FWIW what separates a pro from good main players is not their shot. Most people that play on ESEA have a good shot now, the game has been out a long ass time. What separates good teams from bad teams? Strategies, communication and preparation. Individual skill won't win you a championship.
Pace of the game does not have anything to do with skill level. Rounds in both games are 1 minute and 45 seconds. Teams decide what they want to do with that time whether it be rush or work picks.
Obviously sound is an important element in CS bro. If anything the engine is better is source than it is 1.6. In 1.6 you can hear yourself fall off a ledge, but your opponents won't hear it if you didn't fall from a high enough height. In source if you fall off that same ledge, your opponent will hear exactly what you hear. How can source get picked up for the CGS if sound was somehow "messed up". Just like any game there were probably issues in the beginning (just like vanilla CS), but sometimes companies release patches for games they develop.
If you watched that little video I posted earlier, how did I know to turn around to get that guy behind me? He fell of a ledge and it made a sound. How did I know where that guy was coming from when I was planting the bomb? His loud ass footsteps.
