This game is awesome!

What do the competitive players have to say about it?

Well I've only played for 2-3h and I didn't play any FPS competitively for a few years so just got back into this.

IMO the game is good, especially for competition. The recoil is actually really hard to control imo and is definitely closer to 1.6 than source, although that might be me just not having played PC FPS's for a while.

It seems to me that long-distance shots are significantly weaker than in 1.6, and those long distance AK/m4 fights can last a while if you're not getting a HS. Also maybe I have bad memory but it seems to me that Body damage is less than in 1.6, so getting hs's becomes even more important.

Also the deagle is a lot stronger than before imo, and you can run and shoot with it and it won't be completly innacurate, same goes for the glock.

The AK seems significantly stronger than the m4 imo, especially for mid-long range.

Probably some other things I can't think of but yeah I'm pretty pleased with it so far.

BTW is there a GUI out for GO yet ? Or can you add a 1.6 cfg file and have it working ? I'm so used to playing with my old cfg that just buying weapons pisses me off because I had binds for everything.

What version of CS would have been out around Summer 2000-2001? Where you installed half-life from the CD and downloaded CS as a separate mod. Is that CS 1.6?

i agree about the long range ak47/m4 are much harder than I recalled from the other CS games, also body shots spraying sucking fat ones. Not sure whats going on if its only because I suck now or something.

1.6 came out in 2003.

That was version 1.0 or 1.1.

gotcha.. I am just trying to figure out what version I played on my college LAN. I am assuming that the version I played is closer to 1.6 than Source. Thinking about getting GO and just want to make sure I understand the comparisons when people make them.

Well, GO is a lot better than source, that's for sure.

I like how a shotgun can kill you across the map, but any rifle takes all day.

I was playing Arms Race. Seems like they opened it up to all the maps now.

I'm probably the worst player ever. My timing is always off, I hold and spray, I'm sure my accuracy is terrible when I'm trying to side step, etc.

No crashes for me though.

true or false: high sensitivity is good for close encounters, low sensitivity is great for long shots ?

It's all personal preference, that pretty much is the pros and cons of each.

large mousepad + low sensitivity

2000 dpi + 0.85 in-game sensitivity is what I use. You can go with a lower dpi and higher in-game sensitivity to get the same result. For example 400 dpi and 4.25 in-game sensitivity is the exact same as above.

Fighting in close quarters shouldn't be an issue if you are pre-aiming properly. Make sure mouse acceleration is off. As a general rule you should swipe your mouse across your mousepad and you should turn 180 degrees. If you turn more than that your sensitivity might be too high.

It really depends on how much work you want to do with your arm and hand. If you only move your wrist and don't lift the mouse, you'll probably want a higher sensitivity. However if you lift your mouse (which a lot of players do) then going with a lower sensitivity is probably better. This is why mice include things like "Lift off distance" in their specs. The setting I use is probably on the higher side when compared to other competitive players but I don't have any issues with long distance gun fights or doing 180 degree turns accurately.

In long distance gun fights you probably don't want to move your mouse much anyway. It's better if to just strafe to control where the mouse is.

High DPI is actually baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, it picks up small movements that you don't want.

Most Pro Quake players are using 400-800 dpi, although I think there is some madman out there using 200 dpi.

Simply put you want a straight line from where you are now - to where you want your aim to be. High dpi picks up noise in your movement.

false.

dpi/cpi setting is just preference. There's a lot more to it whether high sens/low dpi is better versus low sens/high dpi, but the difference is pretty much negligible. Sensors play a role as to which setup is best for each mouse. If you can see all that "noise" when you use 400 dpi vs 2000 dpi then you have some crazy ass vision.

Polling rate is probably more important than which dpi you are using.
