What are your guys thoughts on what sort of PC/laptop is needed to run CS:GO? Im currently using a battered old laptop which is like over 5 years old now and it struggles to run source! I can play most of the gungame maps but soon as i try playing de_dust2 etc i get like 3fps I cant really afford to buy a new laptop just for CS:GO so is my only option to get the game on PS3? which would be abit of a shame!

Get at least a 6870 or equivalent graphics card. The game isn't that CPU intensive so anything within the past 3 years should run it fine. Laptop is lol.

I played CS:S no prob with a GeForce 9800GT, which is somewhat of a lower end card these days, and if CS:GO is similarly resource dependent it would be no problem

I haven't played CS:S in quite a while but if people here are going to be playing it any I'd be down in the next couple days imo

of course, if anyone here likes me and has a beta key for CS:GO they'd like to give me I'd happily accept

solsek: yeah my laptop is pretty lol, but it does what it needs to do, grinding + HEM and then uni work occasionally

LirvA: I might see if i can get my old desktop running which could run CS:S pretty well, so if you fancy a game any time drop me a PM

can someone please help me setting up keybinds in CS:S?

I used to play quite a bit but haven't played in a long time. I used to have everything set up fine but for some reason **** isn't working now. I'm trying to bind the flashbang to MOUSE4, smoke to MOUSE5, and HE grenade to another mouse button. This mouse button is assignable and I have it set to *

anyway I got into the god damn console and type in the ****ing binds and the **** doens't ****ing work and I'm really ****ing tilted adfjkasdklfjl;asdfjl;kj

gun game is one of the best ways to improve your game isn't it?

Id say so because your using so many different guns, you get used to the attributes of each gun rather than just whoring m4/ak on de maps But then your not improving in areas such as taking bomb sites or securing hostages etc.

So then it depends what areas of your game your looking to improve!

gun game is one of the worst modes to improve your game. you will never use any weapon besides glock/usp/deagle/mp5/ak/colt/awp. maybe famas/galil, not too sure of CS:S.

So if you play gun game you are spending a huge chunk of time using weapons that will never matter.

Deathmatch is a good way to improve your aim/reaction - plus you will auto-respawn with your colt, ak, or awp. The only way to improve your competitive smarts is with scrims.

(lol @ hostages.. who the fk plays hostage maps )

Getting good at CS requires the same amount of dedication (if not more) to get good at poker.

Here are some analogies that I can think of.

1) Finding a good team where you can grow as a player -> similar to finding a good group of poker players who study the game and take it seriously

2) Dry running strats, understanding strats, understanding different CT defense setups, learning all the little tricks used in each map -> understanding poker strategy at the basic and advanced level

3) Reviewing demos to learn from your mistakes -> reviewing hand histories

4) Deathmatching to improve positioning and aim -> going over other peoples hand histories and discussing them in detail

5) Watching opponent demos to find their weaknesses -> looking at tendencies of particular opponents and finding ways to exploit them

6) Misc. stuff like pugging, aim map etc... -> Sweating friends, having friends sweat you

7) Having a good CFG/PC equipment -> having a good HUD setup and table layout

So while you can improve in CS by just playing the game, there are many aspects that you are skipping out on. It would be similar to just playing a few tables of NLHE without ever studying the game, reviewing hand histories and things like that.

-----
The reason why CS is such a great game is because your level of skill is measured by how well you and your team do against the BEST players in the world, not against random bad people in a random server. With that said, you don't need to take the game 100% serious to be able to improve, but that would be similar to saying that you don't need to take poker seriously to move up in stakes. If you can't dedicate yourself to competitive CS (it's very intimidating to get into if you didn't start from the beginning, so don't worry if it isn't your cup of tea), deathmatching (like bluefox said) would be the most valuable way of improving your abilities.

@solsek not really if you war a ton you will improve at retaking/holding and to get your aim up just play a bunch of cs dm.

reviewing strats is overrated.
reviewing demos to learn new holds is decent idea but still a marginal part of game.

just play a lot and you get good

a lot easier than pokers not as technical
