don't bother until they're upgraded to level 3 or 4. also need 20-30 to be a main attack force. i've seen people use 5 or so as a supplemental attack and have never thought it was really worthwhile

About 400k of each per hour.
You can't stop and come back without getting hit so it's straight through.

I used ten Gems to accelerate one barracks.

I did 3 hours

I would say yes, definitely.

But by far the most important thing about using Hogs is to make sure you take out the Heroes and the CC first. If you don't do that, you're doing it wrong.

Lure them out to a safe area with archers and barbs, then mow them down. If you're up against a tough base where the CC and Heroes are centralized, you can even sacrifice a few hogs to get them out.

You should be doing this with every attack, regardless of army. But it's essential to Hogs.
