Re: Brink -- FPS coming out in 2011

This game is TF2, but with maps designed by idiots. Every map seems to have one horrendous choke-point, and the simplistic map design makes the new movement skills useless. Imagine playing TF2, but on half of de_dust, leaving only one route to the bombsite. Also, the game is limited to 8v8 and there are only a few maps.

The buffing and healing mechanics makes it so the only viable strategy is to group up and spam abilities on each other.

I've never seen such poor design choices in any game.

Admittedly the level of character and weapon customization is kind of cool, but it's 90% cosmetic.

Re: Brink -- FPS coming out in 2011

this error is popping up before i even get into the game

FATAL ERROR: The OpenGL driver doesn't support wglChoosePixelFormatARB

does anyone have any idea on what to do about this off the top of their head, besides updating drivers.

Updating drivers is def the best idea, beyond that you'd have to go on the bethesda support forum or whatever

Re: Brink -- FPS coming out in 2011

ya... no one official has responded on any of the forums i have been too.. and many people have this problem... Hopefully a patch is incoming very very soon..

A lot of people who have been playing without the tech issues seem to love the game so far... so thats good.

Glad I didn't pre-order. I would have just sold it when I got LA Noire anyway.

This is one of the worst games I've ever played.

If Rebecca Black - Friday were a game, it would be called Brink.

Splash Damage developed it, Bethesda published it. I guess they finally did him wrong.

Re: Brink -- FPS coming out in 2011

I was watching an interview with I guess somebody who helped make Brink and he used the words 'kick-ass' and 'awesome' every 5 seconds while describing it. I can't say that I'm surprised that it turned out as lame as it did, although now that I think about it the people who made Borderlands had similar things to say about their game and it actually ended up being amazing. Still, whenever I see game designers gush about how badass their game is my expectations always drop dramatically.

Developers always talk up their games because 1. they made it, and 2. it's everything they want in a game.

I saw a review of this game last night on X-Play. They didn't have anything good to say about the game. I can't remember everything they said, but I do know that for a game with high production values, it's not common that X-Play gives a completely one-sided review like they did.

I understand that they're going to talk up their game, but when they try so hard to sell the game as being 'kickass' I get weary that it's going to be a really shallow gaming experience.

Re: Brink -- FPS coming out in 2011

Alright I beat this game back and forth on hard and co-op for 1000g over about 12 hours. Here's a quick minireview past my initial rage.

- Offensive AI the biggest pack of retards I've ever seen, Defensive AI is like fighting a team of navy seals. This means that if you try to play solo (hard especially) your team basically runs to slaughter leaving you against rape AI. It is seriously very common that one AI on defense will kill 3-4 AI on offense.

- Even if you want to play against humans the AI will overtake the empty spots, of which there are many. So it ends up with a half human team and half AI team in versus mode having the bots run the show doing the same **** they do in single player.

- If you somehow by the grace of god get a full versus game the lag is really, really bad. I'm talking I used to play Quake over a 28.8 modem with less lag. They apparently have a fix for this coming but unless they add a free DLC that adds gamerscore or something I'm never playing this turd again so I can't comment on that.

- The story is basically nonexistant, and the narrators both have accents so it's hard to know what the hell is going on storywise to begin with. I've got the jist of it after two playthroughs and it's a potentially interesting setting with no depth. Really stupid to not include subtitles.

- Weapons are terrible, builds are stupid. Like 30 weapons in total, maybe 5 are usable. No medic is going to differentiate from another medic except for bodysize, which just doesn't make sense for some builds. IE an engineer is likely to be defensively oriented so picking a light build to parkour around like an idiot seems suboptimal. Not to mention trying to take advantage of the parkour system with the lag issues is just not going to be possible.

- The Parkour is lame anyway. The coolest thing you can do is run up a couple stacks of boxes or a quick wallrun. In practice no one does this because they are too busy being tag team sodomized by the lag or the bots.

- Game has no depth and feels unfinished, with the sense that even if it were finished and fleshed out it it MIGHT be able to achieve tolerable status at best.

- Characters and gameplay are obvious team fortress ripoffs, but they forgot to ripoff the fun. There just isn't a single thing about this game that stands out or that another game doesn't do better.

I ended up getting it from gamefly at the last minute, so if I'd purchased this I would have been furious given that it's a steaming pile. Anyway, this game is still awful and if I weren't a douche completionist I would have sent it back to gamefly after 15 minutes instead of finishing it. I should mention that while I play a ton of games I am not a hardcore competitive FPS guy so take my review with that in mind.

Cliff Notes: **** you Brink.
