Re: BioShock takes Game Critics Awards top honors

I was really suprised with AC being on the list. I mean sure some people love it, but so many people hated it. Uncharted seems fine on the list, all I ever hear from my friends with ps3 is how awesome it is. Maybe cause they get sick of me saying how awesome mass effect, bioshock and OJbox are on 360.

I loved Bioshock, but I think it's a bit naive for people to consider it so original when it is basically the same thing as System Shock 2, except some elements were stripped to make it easier for console players. I thought it was very original until I learned of this, and IMO it doesn't deserve the GOTY honors. I personally would have picked either Mass Effect or COD4.

I don't know if people praise Bioshock for it's originality as much as they do for just how well done it was overall. I mean COD4 isn't exactly an icon of creativity; it's just well done and alot of fun to play.

Re: BioShock takes Game Critics Awards top honors

I just got BioShock a couple weeks ago when it went on sale for $40. I'm not too far in, but like it a lot so far. I rented AC last month and enjoyed it too.

I'm surprised SMG wasn't a little higher considering all the very high reviews that came out when it released (still at 97 on metacritic).

Bioshock was the best gaming experience I played this year I think, from top to bottom it was just so well done, I never played SS2 fwiw.

I loved Mass Effect but in the end it left too much to be desired and ended up being frustrating because of it.

COD4 is fun as hell but too stale and ultimately forgettable to take it for me.

Loved SMG too.

Here is how each individual voter voted. Some interesting votes. I saw a couple for desktop defender. Some did vote for individual OJbox titles fwiw.

Well in terms of 360 shooters go Bioshock is very original and most gamers (myself included) had no idea about System Shock 2 and just figured this game was crazy good and original to boot. While it wasn't exactly original, but most people haven't played anything like it. That was one of the bigger reasons imo it got the award. It was well done for sure and like I said I loved it, but I think the gameplay could have been improved a good amount. The graphics, the atmosphere, etc. were just top notch all around and did a great job of covering up the few flaws it had.

Re: BioShock takes Game Critics Awards top honors

BioShock deserves it. While it may not have everything us System Shock 2 fans wanted, it just oozes immersion. I hadn't been that pulled into a game world since the first Half-Life. On some level I miss Rapture. If you're coming late to this one like I did, trust me that it's worth a play. Just be sure to avoid the spoiler filled comments in the lnked story.

I'd include the orange box as a close, almost tying third behind CoD4. Even though it's a collection somehow it still fits here. I suspect that rings truer with 360 owners.
