I'm not sure I agree. How hard is it to come up with an idea...not so hard. Ask around in the venture capital community. It's not the great ideas they are looking for. Multi million dollar ideas get turned down routinely.
What's important is getting **** done and if Edmund can get **** done by getting some dude to code up his ideas that's good.

Is there any source ont he technical details of Isaac/how it was developed, what language that stuff? Quick google search didn't bring up anything.

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with, maybe the most programmers dont design anything part but the only design Edmund claims Florian had was technical design. Which pretty much boils down to whether or not Edmund's ideas can or can't be implemented. It's true that anyone can come up with an idea but implementing, balancing, creating a challenge and goal for that idea is another story. A lot of games can look like they will be fun on paper. You can have an awesome idea and bomb on the prototype.

You are right though when you say that the important thing is getting **** done. My biggest advice for any one working on anything independently in any medium is always work with people that are just as motivated as you.

It's written in flash. Florian and Edmund have worked on a couple flash games in the past and Isaac was supposed to be a small project made over a weekend for a game jam. Once they got rolling they decided to expand on it and finished it in 3 months from paper design to release. He said that his biggest regret is it being made in flash. It's kept a lot of items and features out of the game.

I too was wondering why the performance was so bad on my gaming desktop.

Time for this guy to hire some proper programmers. He's gotta be sitting on a million or two from sales of SMB and Isaac alone.

It's a platform decision mistake. Flash sucks for anything performance related.

I'm sure Florian could have made the game just as easily in C++ or XNA and everything would have been fine.

So my office $600 custom built office computer runs this much better than my expensive gaming rig at home. I get huge slowdown when using bombs or when there are more than 3 mobs on screen. Sucks so much.

daaamn 241? I have about 70 hours and I'm only a few chest runs away from platinum, and probably more than 20 of those hours are me afking because you can't save or suspend game progress.

Did you play a lot even after you already had platinum god? Or golden god if pre-expansion.

I can see myself still making a run now and then even after I 100% the game.

Yeah I played a lot after I got golden and platinum. I still think it would have been cool if there were achievements for beating the chest with each character. I'll also just leave it running in the background while I do other stuff. It's perfect to have on my lap while I watch basketball or something like that. I like it because I can take a break from working, do a run and then go back to work. I don't have to commit to it or anything. People on my friends list think I have problem.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who starts a run with a killer item from the first level, and then proceeds to find every single possible negative pill on level 2.

Or it'll be one of those games where I manage to get 12 red hearts, but zero damage upgrades and I just die slowly and painfully on the womb.

Or I'm playing an amazing glass cannon build (brimstone or similar) and I run into a room with lots of negative space on the outer rim, and a platform in the middle with ****ing 6 granny flies on it (2 bullets each) and I proceed to get pelted to death while I try desperately to doge. Screen looks like this:




You die because the flies are all spread out and you have nowhere to dodge and your attack takes forever to charge and then you get pissed cause you realize you just died to ****ing FLIES after 2-shotting bosses.

**** you, Isaac. **** you.

yeah well we don't all have 800 games played.

I still get hit by **** when the room is shaped like a cross with a rectangular platform in the middle that contains 6 flies all spread out. Minimum of 3 shots to kill them all due to placement, and guaranteed to cost me 2+ hits.

purple are granny flies, black is regular flies just to **** you up, and red are the million bullets flying at you from all directions. Black squigles are spikes just so you can't dash into a corner. **** that room.

I always wind up rolling in there with 1 heart left. Many an Isaac corpse has been left in that room.
